  • Great Rivers Festival Offers Something for Everyone – Just not the Dredge Potter

    The Dredge Potter may not be available for this year’s Great Rivers Festival on Saturday May 17th from 10 am - 5 pm, but many other events and activities will keep visitors entertained. Hosted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Meeting of the Rivers Foundation, and many partners on the river, the Great Rivers Festival will connect visitors with our region’s river heritage. Festival-goers can participate in activities in Alton, Ill., and West Alton, Mo.
  • Great Outdoors Scavenger Hunt at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will host a Great Outdoors Scavenger Hunt on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at the Carlyle Lake Visitor Center to commemorate National Park Trust’s (NPT) Third Annual National Kids to Parks Day. This event is open to children ages 5 to15. A parent or gaurdian will be required to accompany children who are between the ages of 5 and 10. Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. followed by the scavenger hunt at 9:30 a.m. Participants will have an hour to complete the hunt. Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers who find all the items on the scavenger hunt list. All participants will receive prizes. After the hunt, park rangers will present “Natures Treasures” an environmental program to educate participants about the natural items on their scavenger hunt list.
  • Gateway Triathlon at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE – 3 Disciplines Racing will be hosting the Gateway Triathlon at Carlyle Lake on Sunday, May 18, 2014. The triathlon will begin in the Dam West Day Use Area at 8:00 a.m. and will consist of two groups, beginner and advanced, competing in a timed swim, run and bike course. The swim portion will take place on the south side of the main beach. The route of the run course will take participants South from the main dam through the city streets of Carlyle. The bike course will start at the main dam and will travel North on Clinton and Bond County roads. While visiting Carlyle Lake during the triathlon, visitors are encouraged to take extra caution while driving in the areas of the triathlon course.

  • Lone Point Campground Open House

    Lake Shelbyville – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be holding an Open House at the Lone Point Campground on Friday, May 9 and Saturday, May 10, 2014. Lone Point Campground has become a little unknown secret among campgrounds at Lake Shelbyville. The Open House will allow visitors an opportunity to camp at one of 78 sites for free while enjoying some of the renovations within the park. Some of the renovations include a new park entrance and fee booth, electric upgrades to a few sites, extensive campsite and roadway pruning, comfort station painting and reroofing, and a fire pit constructed within the Walleye Group Camp.
