  • Great Outdoors Scavenger Hunt at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will host a Great Outdoors Scavenger Hunt on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at the Carlyle Lake Visitor Center to commemorate National Park Trust’s (NPT) Third Annual National Kids to Parks Day. This event is open to children ages 5 to15. A parent or gaurdian will be required to accompany children who are between the ages of 5 and 10. Registration will begin at 9:00 a.m. followed by the scavenger hunt at 9:30 a.m. Participants will have an hour to complete the hunt. Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers who find all the items on the scavenger hunt list. All participants will receive prizes. After the hunt, park rangers will present “Natures Treasures” an environmental program to educate participants about the natural items on their scavenger hunt list.
  • Dam West Boat Ramp Closed Temporarily for (IHSA) Bass Fishing Finals

    CARLYLE LAKE - The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Bass Fishing Finals are being held at Carlyle Lake on Friday May 9th and Saturday May 10th at the Dam West Boat Ramp in the Dam West Day Use Area. In order to accommodate the tournament activities, the Dam West Boat Ramp will be closed from Monday, May 5th at 10:00 p.m. through Saturday, May 10th at 6:00 p.m. Visitors should use Allen Branch and Apache Boat Ramps located in Eldon Hazlet State Park or the Dam East Boat Ramp and Keyesport Boat Ramp which will be available to the general public during this period.

    Earth Day is celebrated in more than 192 countries each year, and an estimated 20 million Americans participate in events marking the occasion that promote a healthy, sustainable environment.
  • Bill Emerson Memorial Visitor Center Opening Date and Program Dates

    The Bill Emerson Memorial Visitor Center which is located near the Gate House, south of the dam, just off Highway T will soon be open.

The first annual Great Rivers Festival will be at the National Great Rivers Museum in Alton, IL and the Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary in West Alton, MO from 10 am - 5 pm on Saturday May 17th. A party so big, it spans the Mississippi River!

  • Temporary Closure of Dam West Boat Ramp

    CARLYLE LAKE - The FLW College Fishing Circuit will be holding a Central Conference Bass Fishing Tournament at Carlyle Lake on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at the Dam West Boat Ramp in the Dam West Day Use Area. Anglers will take off from the Dam West Boat Ramp at 6:30 a.m. and weigh in will begin at 2:30 p.m. Take off and weigh in are free and open to the public. To ensure visitor and public safety, the Dam West Boat Ramp will be closed from Friday, April 25th at 10:00 p.m. through Saturday, April 26th at 4:00 p.m. Visitors wishing to launch a boat should use the Allen Branch or Apache Boat Ramps located in Eldon Hazlet State Park or the Dam East and Keyesport Boat Ramps which will be available to the general public during this period.
  • 36th Annual Old Greenville Black Powder Rendezvous This Weekend at Wappapello Lake

    All roads in southeast Missouri will lead to the Greenville Recreation Area at Wappapello Lake on April 12 and 13, 2014, for the 36th Annual Old Greenville Black Powder Rendezvous. This event is the longest consecutive rendezvous in the state of Missouri. Many families have made this event a tradition. There will be something for all ages to do. Check out the traders, food, old-time children’s games, and primitive lodges. Watch or participate in the competitive activities such as black powder shooting, hawk and knife throwing, bow shooting, and fire starting. Adult entry fee for those in primitive attire is $10. For those in modern dress it is $12. Teenage division (13-17 years old) fee is $5 and will shoot with adults. Youth division ages 12 and under shoots for free with adult supervision. Women may compete in Women’s Division or Open Division. Event hours are 9 a.m. to dark on Saturday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free to the public.
  • Carlyle Lake Main Dam Bridge Deck Closure

    CARLYLE LAKE – On Monday, April 14, 2014, the Carlyle Lake Main Dam bridge deck will be closed for maintenance work. The work is a continuation from prior structural repairs and painting performed in 2006. Repairs will include sandblasting and repainting the four tainter gates at the Carlyle Lake Main Dam. These repairs will ensure the integrity and increase the longevity of the structure. The repairs are expected to last through the entire recreation season and work is scheduled to be completed in September 2014. The schedule of work is contingent upon weather and lake level, and may be adjusted.
