    For Immediate Release: 15 April 2019 Release No.: 19-15 Lithia Springs Pack the Park Event at Lake Shelbyville Lake Shelbyville – Camping season is here and Lake Shelbyville is celebrating with a free camping event called Pack the Park. The event will take place at Lithia Springs Campground May 9-11, 2019. During this time, campsites are first come, first served with no reservations available. Paid camping will resume on Sunday, May 12.   • 2019 Recreation Season at Lake Shelbyville

    For Immediate Release: 15 April 2019 Release No.: 19-16 Lake Shelbyville – The recreation season is upon us and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville would like to announce 2019 campground & public beach season dates. All camping facilities, with the exception of Lone Point Campground, are on target to open on their scheduled dates. All beaches are also on target to open as scheduled, weather permitting. Fish cleaning stations and restrooms are open, with the exception of Lone Point, and all courtesy docks are in place.

  • Lake Shelbyville Adopt-A-Flower Bed Program

    For Immediate Release: 20 March 2019 Release No.: 19-13 Lake Shelbyville Adopt-A-Flower Bed Program Have you ever wanted to have your own flower garden? The US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) at Lake Shelbyville is looking for individual or groups that would be interested in adopting a garden space, for free! The program is a volunteer-based activity where area volunteer groups or individual can “adopt” and maintain designated sections of flowerbeds located outside the Lake Shelbyville Visitor Center.

    Lake Shelbyville – The 30th Annual Deer Hunt for People with Disabilities, hosted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Wolf Creek State Park will be held November 22 through November 24, 2019. Applications are available for pickup at the Lake Shelbyville Project Office, online at http://tinyurl.com/LakeShelbyville-Hunting, or mail by contacting the Environmental Stewardship Department at 217-774-3951 Ext. 7049.

  • Lake Shelbyville Fish Habitat Improvement Day

    Lake Shelbyville Fish Habitat Improvement Day Lake Shelbyville - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Illinois Department of Natural Resources and Lake Shelbyville Fish Habitat Alliance will place donated Christmas trees and artificial structures into Lake Shelbyville to enhance the fisheries on March 16, 2019. Volunteers with large jon boats are needed as well as volunteers on shore to help bundle and place trees in boats. To volunteer, meet at the Lone Point Recreation Area boat ramp parking lot by 8:30 a.m. Volunteers are required to sign in prior to starting work at 9:00 a.m. A free lunch will be provided.

Applicants must possess a state-issued disabled person identification card or a disabled veteran identification card. This year, 10 spots will be held for Wounded Warriors. All disabled veterans wounded in combat are encouraged to apply. Applications must be submitted by March 29, 2019 to the Lake Shelbyville Project Office, 1989 State HWY 16, Shelbyville, IL 62565.

  • Summer Employment Available at Lake Shelbyville

    Summer Employment Available at Lake Shelbyville Lake Shelbyville – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville is looking for qualified candidates to fill student vacancies for the 2019 summer recreation season. Lake Shelbyville offers a great work experience opportunity for those students who plan to make a career in biological sciences, outdoor recreation, or law enforcement. Temporary student positions are available for graduating seniors and college students at the GS-02 level. These positions are available in Interpretive Services, Visitor Assistance, Facility/Grounds Maintenance, Environmental Stewardship, and Administration with an hourly rate around $11.68 and a 40 hour per week work schedule during the summer term. Candidates may be required to work a combination of days, nights, weekends, and holiday shifts.

  • Lake Shelbyville Christmas Tree Recycling Program

    Lake Shelbyville - Don’t let your Christmas tree go to waste this year after the holidays. Extend your tree’s life by donating it for Fish Habitat Improvement Day at Lake Shelbyville. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources will place the discarded trees into Lake Shelbyville to enhance the fisheries for years to come. Donated Christmas trees are bundled together in small groups and submerged in the lake at select locations. These structures provide fish with breeding areas and escape cover, proving invaluable to not only the fisheries but to anglers as well. New trees are added to sites each year to maintain suitable cover. Trees will be collected in Shelbyville and Sullivan again this year. The designated collection site in Sullivan is at Sullivan 66 Gas Station south of Sullivan on route 32. Trees can be dropped off inside the snow fence area on the north side of the building. (PLEASE, DO NOT PLACE TREES ON THE PARKING LOT).

  • Lake Shelbyville Water Control Public Meeting RESCHEDULED

    Lake Shelbyville – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Water Control public meeting that was scheduled for Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at the Lake Shelbyville Visitor Center has rescheduled for February 19, 2019. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the current water control plan for Lake Shelbyville, water control operations, and dam safety. Engineering staff from the USACE St. Louis District office will present information about water control operations and procedures, and dam safety. The Lake Shelbyville Visitor Center is located east of the Lake Shelbyville Main Dam at 1989 State Hwy. 16 Shelbyville, IL 62565.   • Lake Shelbyville to host Smithsonian Exhibit

    The Museum on Main Street exhibition from the Smithsonian Institution and Illinois Humanities will be on display at the Lake Shelbyville Visitor Center from December 15, 2018 – January 26, 2019.
