    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is gearing up for the 4th of July at Lake Shelbyville. Fireworks will be launched at dusk from Ramp Point, located in Dam West Recreation Area. Lake Shelbyville has compiled a list of locations best suited for viewing the fireworks. Locations include: Dam West Recreation Area, Dam East Recreation Area, Lake Shelbyville Visitor Center, on top of the Lake Shelbyville Dam, and Dam West Overlook. At 8 p.m., the Dam Road will be closed to traffic prior to and during fireworks from the 9th street intersection to Dam East.
  • Lake Shelbyville Kids Fishing Tournament

    Lake Shelbyville Kids Fishing Tournament Lake Shelbyville - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville and Friends of Lake Shelbyville is hosting a free fishing tournament for children 12 and under on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Opossum Pond. The pond is located near the entrance to the Opossum Creek Recreation Area. Participants must pre-register by calling (217) 774-3951 ext. 2, or email lakeshelbyville@usace.army.mil. Information needed: name of participant, age of participant on event day, name of parent/guardian, and phone number for parent/guardian.
  • Loop Lake Shelbyville Bike Ride

    Lake Shelbyville - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Friends of Lake Shelbyville are excited to be hosting the Loop Lake Shelbyville bike ride on Saturday, June 12th, 2021. The event was cancelled last year due to COVID-19, therefore dust off your bicycles and join us for a fun ride! All rides will start from the Lake Shelbyville Visitor and will include options for a 22 mile, 34 mile, 48 mile or a 65 mile ride. Proceeds for the ride will benefit the Friends of Lake Shelbyville (FOLS). The FOLS provides education, historical interpretation, recreational and environmental improvements at Lake Shelbyville.

    Lake Shelbyville – The 31st Annual Deer Hunt for People with Disabilities, hosted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Wolf Creek State Park will be held November 19 through November 21, 2021.     Summer Employment Available at Lake Shelbyville Lake Shelbyville – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville is looking for qualified candidates to fill student vacancies for the 2021 summer recreation season. Lake Shelbyville offers a great work experience opportunity for those students who plan to make a career in biological sciences, outdoor recreation, or law enforcement. Temporary student positions are available for graduating seniors and college students at the GS-02 level. These positions are available in Interpretive Services, Visitor Assistance, Facility/Grounds Maintenance, Environmental Stewardship, and Administration with an hourly rate around $12.33 and a 40 hour per week work schedule during the summer term. Candidates may be required to work a combination of days, nights, weekends, and holiday shifts.

Camp Camfield, General Dacey Mountain Bike Trail, and the Illini Trail are all closed to any non-hunting users or activities for the duration of first and second firearm deer season as well as muzzleloader season. Lake Shelbyville had a successful year in 2020 with campsite utilization rates up almost 20%. The 2021 season is projected to be another busy year for outdoor recreation and camping.

    Lake Shelbyville Tree Stand Permits now available for the 2020-2021 Deer Season Lake Shelbyville – Lake Shelbyville‘s Tree Stand Policy for this year will remain the same as it was last season. The policy allows hunters to leave one stand up for the season (“Seasonal Tree Stand”) and/or utilize a “Roving” stand that can be left up for a period not to exceed a break in use greater than 72 hours – the length of a three day weekend. Seasonal tree stands may be placed two weeks prior to archery season and must be removed within two weeks of archery season ending. Archery season runs from October 1, 2020 - January 17, 2021.
  • Lone Point Campground Now Open At Lake Shelbyville

    Lone Point Campground Now Open At Lake Shelbyville Lake Shelbyville – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville would like to announce Lone Point Campground is now open. Lone Point Campground is 100% reservable and campers must have a reservation through R1S prior to setting up on a campsite. Campers are reminded to follow CDC guidelines while recreating at Lake Shelbyville. Lone Point Group Camp is also open and available by online reservation. Group camp reservations must be 2 weeks in advance and no greater than 1 year in advance. The group camp is available for single site first come, first served camping when there are no reservations posted. For campsite availability or to make a reservation, please visit www.recreation.gov. Reservations by phone at 1-877-444-6777 are scheduled to resume on July 1, 2020.
