    Lake Shelbyville Tree Stand Permits now available for the 2019-2020 Deer Season Lake Shelbyville Tree Stand Permits now available for the 2019-2020 Deer Season Lake Shelbyville – Lake Shelbyville's Tree Stand Policy for this year will remain the same as it was last season. The policy allows hunters to leave one stand up for the season (“Seasonal Tree Stand”) and/or utilize a “Roving” stand that can be left up for a period not to exceed a break in use greater than 72 hours – the length of a 3 day weekend. Seasonal tree stands may be placed 2 weeks prior to archery season and must be removed within 2 weeks of archery season ending. Archery season runs from October 1, 2016 - January 19, 2020. Hunters wishing to purchase a seasonal tree stand permit ($30.00) must present a valid hunting license before a permit will be issued. Seasonal and Roving tree stand permits may be obtained from the Lake Shelbyville Project Office Monday – Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm and Bo Woods, Coon Creek, or Lithia Springs Fee Booths during operating hours. Roving tree stand permits, which are free of charge, may also be obtained in Sullivan, IL at Ace Hardware, Phillip’s 66 (formerly Howy’s Lakeside) Gas Station located five miles south of Sullivan, IL on Highway 32, and Chips's Marine. Hunters can also pick up Roving tree stand permits at ACE Hardware, Lithia Resort, Craig’s Sporting Goods, Kidd's Archery, or Yotes Archery Den which are located in or near Shelbyville. Hunters utilizing ladder stands are encouraged to purchase a Seasonal permit. A Roving permit is designed for the mobile hunter and requires the hunter to remove the stand from the woods if there is a break in use greater than 72 hours.

  • High Water Continues at Lake Shelbyville

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville is reporting continued high water conditions at the lake. The pool elevation has risen to 10.32 feet above normal summer pool (599.7 feet referenced to the National Geodetic Vertical Datum (NGVD). The level on Tuesday, June 25 was 610.02 feet NVGD.  The discharge rate was 1750 cubic feet per second (cfs) and the inflow was 4170 cfs.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville is reporting high water conditions at the lake. The pool elevation has risen to 6.39 feet above normal summer pool (599.7 feet referenced to the National Geodetic Vertical Datum (NGVD). The level as of 7 a.m. on Thursday, June 20 was 606.09 feet NVGD and rising.  The discharge rate was 750 cubic feet per second (cfs).
  • Dog Show Planned at Lake Shelbyville

    For Immediate Release: 14 June 2019 Release No.: 19-21 Dog Show Planned at Lake Shelbyville Lake Shelbyville – The 25th annual Dog Days of Summer Dog Show is scheduled for Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Forrest W. “Bo” Wood Campground. Participants may enter their dogs in the following categories: Best Trick, Best Dressed, Smallest Dog, Biggest Dog, and Most Precious Puppy. There will be prizes awarded to the winners of each category. Owners may enter multiple dogs, but only one dog per owner is allowed in each category. All dogs must be kept on a leach no longer than six feet in length while at the show and in any recreation area at Lake Shelbyville. This leash regulation helps ensure the safety of both animals and people. Any dogs present must be up to date on all of their vaccines. Dog Days will take place at the Bo Wood Campground Amphitheater (1060 CR 1025 North, Sullivan, IL 61951). Please note that the location has changed from Coon Creek Campground where it has been held in the past. Registration begins at 5:30PM, and the show begins at 6:00PM.     Summer is almost here and that means millions of Americans will be planning visits to our nation’s lakes and rivers. As the steward of many of these public waters, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) reminds visitors to be aware of the importance of practicing safe, sensible and thoughtful activities in and around the water.
  • Lake Shelbyville Kids Fishing Tournament

    For Immediate Release: 20 May 2019 Release No.: 19-19 Lake Shelbyville Kids Fishing Tournament Lake Shelbyville – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville is hosting a free fishing tournament for children 12 and under on Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Opossum Pond. The pond is located near the entrance to the Opossum Creek Recreation Area. Participants are encouraged to pre-register by calling 217-774-3951 ext. 2, though it is not mandatory. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. for the age 6 and under category, and participants will fish from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. for the age 7-9 and 10-12 category, and participants will fish from 10:00 a.m. to11:00 a.m. Prizes will be awarded for biggest fish, smallest fish, and most fish in each age division. All children will receive a certificate for participating. The tournament will be limited to bank fishing only. All participants are required to bring and wear a life jacket. Fishing equipment (including tackle and bait) is not provided, and children must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

    For Immediate Release: 20 May 2019 Release No.: 19-20 Lake Shelbyville – Registration is underway for the 2019 Wild About Nature series at the Lake Shelbyville Visitor Center! Sessions take place on Thursday mornings in June and July. Any children from birth to 12 years old are welcome to attend. Birth to 5 years old meet from 9:00-10:00AM. Ages 6-12 meet from 10:30-11:30AM. Participants will check-in at the Visitor Center front desk upon arrival. A responsible adult must accompany anyone birth to age 3. Adults are not required to stay for all other ages. Campground programs are on the agenda for Saturday evening and rangers will be on beach and lake patrol throughout the weekend.
  • Loop Lake Shelbyville Bike Ride

    For Immediate Release: 24 April 2019 Release No.: 19-17 Loop Lake Shelbyville Bike Ride Lake Shelbyville – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Friends of Lake Shelbyville are hosting the 6th Annual Loop Lake Shelbyville bike ride on Saturday, June 8, 2019. All rides will start from the Lake Shelbyville Visitor and will include options for a 22 mile, 47 mile or a 65 mile ride. Proceeds for the ride will benefit the Friends of Lake Shelbyville (FOLS). The FOLS provides education, historical interpretation, recreational and environmental improvements at Lake Shelbyville. Loop Lake Shelbyville bike ride starts at the Lake Shelbyville Visitor Center. Rest stops will be provided every 10-13 miles for riders with water and snacks available. The 22 mile ride will take riders to Findlay and back to the Visitor Center. The 47 mile and 65 mile routes will loop Lake Shelbyville, ferry across the lake and head back to the Visitor Center. Registration and check-in at the Lake Shelbyville Visitor Center begins at 7:00 a.m. and ends at 8:30 a.m. Riders may start riding after they have registered or checked in. Participants should plan their route to be back at the Visitor Center no later than 3:00 pm. Requirements: Riders must be over the age of 14 years. If under the age of 18, riders must be accompanied by a responsible adult. All riders will be required to wear a helmet for the duration of the ride and obey all applicable Illinois State rules of the road. If registered by May 24th participants will receive a t-shirt!
