    U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District’s Lake Shelbyville and Mark Twain Lake were recently awarded the National Fish Habitat Partnership Bass Pro Shops U.S. Open Grant to improve fish habitats at the respective project sites. The projects funded through this opportunity are high-priority focus areas of the Reservoir Fish Habitat Partnership. The grants received in the St. Louis District include more than $167,000 to improve aquatic habitat within reservoirs at Mark Twain Lake and Lake Shelbyville."

  • Lake Shelbyville Fish Habitat Improvement Day Rescheduled to March 27

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Illinois Department of Natural Resources and Lake Shelbyville Fish Habitat Alliance will place donated Christmas trees and artificial structures into Lake Shelbyville to enhance the fisheries on March 27, 2022. The workday was originally scheduled for Saturday, March 26, 2022, but has been rescheduled due to safety concerns associated with forecasted high winds for Saturday. To volunteer, meet at the Wilborn Creek Recreation Area boat ramp parking lot by 8:30 a.m. Volunteers are required to sign in prior to starting work at 9:00 a.m. A free lunch will be provided.
  • TEMPORARY RECREATION AREA CLOSINGS AT LAKE SHELBYVILLE TO CONDUCT DEER HUNT FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

    Lake Shelbyville - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Wolf Creek State Park will hold the 31st Annual Lake Shelbyville Deer Hunt for People with Disabilities during the first firearm deer season on November 19-21, 2021. The hunt will be conducted in portions of recreation areas at Lake Shelbyville that are closed for the season. As a safety precaution, Lone Point and Lithia Springs Campgrounds and all of Sullivan Beach, Wilborn Creek, Coon Creek, and Opossum Creek Recreation Areas will be closed to all automobile and pedestrian traffic from 2 p.m. Thursday, November 18, 2021 to 7 p.m. Sunday, November 21, 2021.

    Lake Shelbyville – The 44th Annual Lake Shelbyville Eco-Meet, coordinated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was held at Camp Camfield Ecological Study Area on October 21st, 2021. The Eco-Meet is an environmental competition for school students that are in junior high and high school. Junior Varsity teams are comprised of four students from grades seven and eight. Varsity teams are made up of four high school students from grades nine through twelve. A total of 140 students from 35schools competed in this year’s event.

    Lake Shelbyville – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will hold a youth deer hunt at Lake Shelbyville on October 9 & 10, 2021. The hunt will be conducted in portions of recreation areas previously closed for the season. As a safety precaution Lone Point Campground, excluding the boat ramp and Walleye Group Camp, Whitley Creek campground and treatment plant, excluding the boat ramp and all Wilborn Creek, Sullivan Beach, and Opossum Creek Recreation Areas will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic from 12:00 p.m. October 8, 2021 to 8:00 p.m. October 10, 2021.
  • Lake Shelbyville Disabled Deer Hunting Blinds Available at Whitley Creek Recreation Area

    Lake Shelbyville - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville is offering additional deer hunting opportunities at Whitley Creek Recreation Area in Moultrie County for disabled deer hunters holding a state issued P2A card. Disabled hunters will be able to reserve one of 4 blinds in the closed Recreation Area during archery deer season. All four blinds were built by Boy Scouts to earn their Eagle Scout status.
