    CARLYLE LAKE – Fall is a beautiful time for camping! Enjoy the cool fall temperatures with family and friends while roasting hot dogs and marshmallows over a crackling campfire. Carlyle Lake offers opportunities at several campgrounds that stay open for fall camping. Dam West and McNair Campgrounds will be open through 4 p.m. Saturday, November 1st, Boulder Campground will be open through 4p.m. Wednesday, October 15th, and Dam East and Hazlet State Park Campgrounds are open year round.
  • Wappapello Lake Festival of Lights Christmas Auto Tour

    Wappapello Lake – The 22nd Annual Festival of Lights Christmas Auto Tour will be held in the Redman Creek East Campground at Wappapello Lake. The event is scheduled to begin November 28, 2014, and will run through December 28, 2014. The Festival of Lights will be open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights from dusk until 9 p.m. until December 19, when it opens on a nightly basis until closing on December 28. This event is held in partnership with the Wappapello Lions Club and the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers at Wappapello Lake. With the help of local businesses, volunteers, churches, and other organizations within the community, it is speculated that this year’s event will be bigger and better than ever.

    Alton, Ill. – The Meeting of the Rivers Foundation is hosting the 3rd annual Haunted Museum event on Friday, October 24th at the National Great Rivers Museum in Alton, Ill. from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Take the chance to show your costume off twice by celebrating Halloween early. Activities will include trick or treating, Halloween crafts and games, and many more spectacles. Serengeti Steve: The Reptile Experience will be performing from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. Get up close and personal to the creepy-crawly creatures that make the hair on your neck stand up. Live birds from the TreeHouse Wildlife Center will be joining in the trick or treating fun. Come out for trick or treating, Halloween crafts and games, and night time lock and dam tours.
