  • Weekend Activities at Carlyle Lake 6-18-21 - 6-20-21

    Grab your fishing poles and bait and celebrate Father’s Day with some fishing this weekend at Carlyle Lake during Illinois Free Fishing Days. From Friday, 18 June through Monday, 21 June, anyone can fish in Illinois without having to purchase a fishing license. This annual event is the perfect time to introduce someone to the sport of fishing.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Carlyle Lake is preparing for another fun and safe weekend.  Whether you enjoy fishing, camping, boating, bike riding or other outdoor activities, Carlyle Lake offers an abundance of recreation opportunities.  While participating in any outdoor activities, please keep safety in mind.

  • Dam West Boat Ramp Closed Temporarily for IHSA State Bass Fishing Finals

    CARLYLE LAKE - The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) State Bass Fishing Finals are being held at Carlyle Lake on Friday, 21 May 2021 – Saturday, 22 May 2021 at the Dam West Boat Ramp in the Dam West Day Use Area. To accommodate tournament activities, the Dam West Boat Ramp will be closed from Tuesday, 18 May 2021 at 10:00 p.m. through Saturday, 22 May 2021 at 6:00 p.m. Visitors should use Allen Branch and Apache Boat Ramps located in Eldon Hazlet State Park or the Dam East Boat Ramp and Keyesport Boat Ramp which will be available to the general public during this period.

  • Boulder Road Bridge Closure

    Boulder Road will be closed at the bridge over Gibbs Creek between Lake Villa Road and Nut Road,

  • Carlyle Lake Dam East Boat Ramp Closure

    CARLYLE LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Carlyle Lake Project will temporarily close the Dam East Boat Ramp to the public beginning the evening of Thursday, April 8 through Sunday, April 11, 2021. The closure is necessary for the 739th Engineer Company to conduct military training exercises associated with launching, catching, and retrieving Interior Bays on the water with approximately 30 to 40 soldiers participating.

  • Carlyle Lake Increasing Downstream Releases

    CARLYLE LAKE - As of 1:00 p.m. on Monday, 22 March 2021, the pool elevation at Carlyle Lake was 448.17 feet, referenced to the National Geodetic Vertical Datum (NGVD). The current release rate is approximately 5,700 cubic feet per second (cfs). The inflow for Sunday, 21 March 2021 was approximately 15,330 day second feet (dsf). With current precipitation on the ground, Carlyle Lake is forecasted to crest at 449.00 feet NGVD on Wednesday, 24 March 2021. Releases will be increased to 10,000 cfs by Friday, 26 March 2021.

Carlyle Lake offers a great work experience opportunity for students pursuing a career in the field of biology, outdoor recreation, or natural resource management.

  • Carlyle Lake Increasing Downstream Releases

    CARLYLE LAKE - As of 1:00 p.m. on Monday,1 February 2021 the pool elevation at Carlyle Lake was 444.58 feet, referenced to the National Geodetic Vertical Datum (NGVD). The current release rate is approximately 3,750 cubic feet per second (cfs). The inflow for Sunday, 31 January 2021 was approximately 10,260 day second feet (dsf). With current precipitation on the ground, Carlyle Lake is forecasted to crest at 445.5 feet NGVD on Wednesday, 3 February 2021. Releases will be increased to 6,000 cfs by Friday, 5 February 2021.

  • Eagle Watch Event at General Dean Recreation Area

    CARLYLE LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will host the annual Eagle Watch event at the General Dean Recreation Area between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on Saturday January 30th, 2021. The World Bird Sanctuary will have a live Bald Eagle on display for public viewing in a heated tent. Please visit any time during these hours to help prevent large gatherings. The event will be different from years prior and be a meet and greet style event. Masks will be required when entering the tent. The General Dean Recreation Area is also one of the best spots around Carlyle Lake to view Bald Eagles in their natural habitat. Those attending the event are encouraged to bring a mask, binoculars or spotting scope, and dress accordingly for the weather as it is an outdoor event.

  • Carlyle Lake Christmas Tree Recycling Project

    CARLYLE LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Carlyle Lake will be collecting used, real Christmas trees for the annual Christmas Tree Recycling Project. The Corps of Engineers, along with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, uses these trees to provide effective and economical fish habitat at Carlyle Lake.
