  • Weekend Activities at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE – The Carlyle Lake Bike Trail is a fun outdoor activity the whole family can enjoy! The trail offers over sixty miles of federal, state, and county roads to ride as well as a scenic view from atop the Carlyle Lake Main Dam. Maps are available at the Carlyle Lake Visitor Center, the Carlyle Lake Project Office, or online at https://www.mvs.usace.army.mil/Missions/Recreation/Carlyle-Lake/.

    CARLYLE LAKE – With school starting, it may feel like the fun of summer is coming to an end, but the recreation season is still going strong at Carlyle Lake. All campgrounds are still open and will be through the fall. All beaches are open until mid-September. There is still plenty to do at the lake and as the temperatures begin to drop outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, kayaking, geocaching, and biking are even more enjoyable. School and work may keep your week busy, but keep Carlyle Lake in mind for your weekend activities.

  • Weekend Activities at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE – Carlyle Lake offers a variety of late summer hunting opportunities starting with squirrel season which opens Thursday, 1 August 2019. Shooting hours are ½ hour before sunrise to ½ hour after sunset. The daily bag limit is five and the possession limit is ten, you may possess no more than twice the daily bag limit. All public lands around the lake are open to hunting with the exception of developed recreation areas and a 100 yard buffer zone around the recreation areas and other posted areas marked “NO HUNTING.” Both shotguns and .22 rim fire rifles are permitted on Corps of Engineers public lands to hunt squirrels. Remember to always practice hunting safety and follow all State of Illinois hunting rules and regulations, as well as U.S. Army Corps of Engineers site specific regulations.

  • Summer Hunting Opportunities at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE – Carlyle Lake offers a variety of late summer hunting opportunities. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources work together to manage public lands and waters at Carlyle Lake. More than 10,000 acres of public lands are open to public hunting to which all-current Illinois game laws and regulations are in effect. All hunters are required to sign in and out daily and record harvest at the nearest hunter sign in box. Access areas are conveniently located around the lake to provide parking and access to public lands. Several wildlife food plots have been planted around the lake. Plots consist of various crops including sunflowers, corn, and other row crops.

    CARLYLE LAKE – July is National Parks and Recreation Month and Carlyle Lake is the perfect destination to celebrate! Whether you enjoy fishing, camping, boating, biking or other outdoor activities, Carlyle Lake offers an abundance of recreation opportunities. While participating in water related recreation activities, always wear your life jacket. Over two-thirds of people who drown never had any intention of being in the water.

  • Weekend Activities at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE – This time of year is often referred to as the “Dogs Days of Summer.” When visiting the lake with your pets, please follow a few simple rules to ensure everyone has a fun and safe visit. Pets must be kept on a leash no longer than six feet and must be kept under control at all times. Owners must pick up and properly dispose of animal waste. Animal waste bag dispensers are located throughout the project.

    CARLYLE LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in partnership with the City of Carlyle will host the Carlyle Lake Summer Camp Series on Fridays at 10:00 a.m. in July and August beginning Friday, 19 July 2019. These fun and educational programs are free and open to the public. Programs will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Dam West Day Use Shelter #2. Each presentation is packed with hands-on activities appropriate for all ages! Presentation dates and descriptions are below.

    CARLYLE LAKE – Pack your picnic and head to Carlyle Lake, July is National Picnic Month! With more than 400 picnic sites available around the lake, Carlyle Lake is the perfect place to enjoy food, family, and friends outdoors. Picnic sites are available on a first come, first serve basis. The lake also has eight picnic shelters available for reservation. These shelters are great for large groups and family gatherings. For picnic shelter reservations contact the National Reservation Recreation Service at 877-444-6777 or online at recreation.gov.

  • Carlyle Lake Pool Update, 6-28-19

    As of 12:00 p.m. on Friday, June 28, 2019 the pool elevation at Carlyle Lake was 452.55 feet, referenced to the National Geodetic Vertical Datum (NGVD). The current release rate is approximately 5,200 cubic feet per second (cfs). The inflow for Thursday, June 27, 2019 was approximately 13,080 day second feet (dsf). With current precipitation on the ground, Carlyle Lake is forecasted to crest at less than 453.0 feet NGVD on Saturday, June 29, 2019. Carlyle Lake Dam is operating as designed, helping reduce flood stages on the Lower Kaskaskia and Mississippi Rivers.

    As of 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2019 the pool elevation at Carlyle Lake was 452.10 feet, referenced to the National Geodetic Vertical Datum (NGVD). The current release rate is approximately 4,950 cubic feet per second (cfs). The inflow for Wednesday, June 26, 2019 was approximately 12,730 day second feet (dsf). With current precipitation on the ground, Carlyle Lake is forecasted to crest at 452.5 feet NGVD on Thursday, June 27, 2019 in the afternoon. Carlyle Lake Dam is operating as designed, helping reduce flood stages on the Lower Kaskaskia and Mississippi Rivers.
