  • Carlyle Lake USACE Campground Upgrades and Changes

    CARLYLE LAKE – Coles Creek Campground and Boulder Campground, located on the east side of Carlyle Lake, will be undergoing updates and changes prior to the 2023 recreation season. Contractors will be performing asphalt work to upgrade the roads and campsites in both campgrounds, beginning early spring. Contractors are also currently performing tree maintenance in the campgrounds. Due to the uncertainty of when the work will be completed and weather delays, both Coles Creek and Boulder will not open until May 12, 2023. This includes the Lotus Group Area and group areas A and B within Coles Creek.
  • Carlyle Lake Christmas Tree Recycling Project

    CARLYLE LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Carlyle Lake will be collecting used, real Christmas trees for the annual Christmas Tree Recycling Project. The Corps of Engineers, along with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, uses these trees to provide effective and economical fish habitat at Carlyle Lake.
  • Fall Closures and Events at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE – Fall is one of the best seasons to spend time around the campfire and there is still time to enjoy the campgrounds at Carlyle Lake. The Coles Creek Campground will be closing September 26. Boulder Campground closes October 11. Dam West Campground and the north and south loops of McNair Campgrounds will close October 31. The Dam East-McNair Spillway Loop Campground and Eldon Hazlet State Park Campground will continue to operate year-round. Reservations for USACE campsites can be made by calling the National Recreation Reservation Service at 1-877-444-6777 or online at www.recreation.gov. Sites are also available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Eldon Hazlet State Park reservations can be made online at camp.exploremoreil.com.
  • Carlyle Lake Tri Event and Temporary Road Closures

    CARLYLE LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Carlyle Lake, in partnership with MSE Racing, will host the Carlyle Lake Tri on Sunday, 18 September 2022. The triathlon will begin in the Dam West Day Use Area at 6:30 a.m. and will consist of two groups, Sprint and Olympic Distance, competing in a timed swim, bike, and run course. The swim portion will take place on the south side of the Dam West Beach. The bike course will start at the Main Dam and will travel North on Clinton and Bond County roads. The route of the run course will take participants through the West Spillway, General Dean Recreation Area, East Spillway, across Saddle Dam II, and the Main Dam. While visiting Carlyle Lake during the triathlon, visitors are encouraged to take extra caution while driving in the areas of the triathlon course.
  • Main Dam Bridge Deck Closure for Repairs

    CARLYLE LAKE – The Carlyle Lake Main Dam Bridge Deck will be closed Tuesday, 6 September 2022 until Tuesday, 13 September 2022 for routine maintenance. Cleaning and repair of the monolith joints ensure the integrity and increase the longevity of these structures.
  • Carlyle Lake Blood Drive Donors Receive T-Shirt and Free Camping

    Carlyle Lake – The American Red Cross, in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, will be hosting a blood drive on Thursday, 1 September 2022 at the Carlyle Lake Visitor Center from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Red Cross works diligently every day to keep an adequate supply of blood available. The need for blood is ongoing 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In the United States a blood transfusion is needed every two seconds. The American Red Cross encourages eligible donors to give the gift of life to help meet the demand.
  • Summer Hunting Opportunities at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE – Carlyle Lake offers a variety of late summer hunting opportunities. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources work together to manage public lands and waters at Carlyle Lake. More than 10,000 acres of public lands are open to public hunting to which all-current Illinois game laws and regulations are in effect. All hunters are required to sign in and out daily and record harvest at the nearest hunter sign in box. Access areas are conveniently located around the lake to provide parking and access to public lands. Several wildlife food plots have been planted around the lake. Plots consist of various crops including sunflowers, corn, and other row crops.
  • 30th Annual Cruz-In the Dam Event at Carlyle Lake

    Carlyle Lake – On Friday, August 12, 2022, the 30th Annual Cruz-In the Dam Car Show Nationals will be held at Mariner’s Village Resort in the Dam West area of Carlyle Lake. More than 250 classic cars from central and southern Illinois are expected to participate in the event.

While participating in any outdoor activities, please keep safety in mind.

    CARLYLE LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Carlyle Lake Project is preparing for a fun and safe weekend celebrating Independence Day at Carlyle Lake. Family oriented activities will be taking place throughout the weekend; all activities are free and open to the public.
