  • Fall Opportunities at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE – Fall is a beautiful time to enjoy the outdoors! Carlyle Lake’s fall opportunities will keep you busy the entire season! Enjoy the cool fall temperatures with family and friends while roasting hot dogs and marshmallows over a crackling campfire. Carlyle Lake offers opportunities at several campgrounds that stay open for fall camping. Dam West and McNair Campgrounds will be open through 12 p.m. Monday, November 1st, 2021. Boulder Campground will be open until 12 p.m. Tuesday, October 12th, 2021. Dam East and Hazlet State Park Campgrounds are open year-round.
  • Carlyle Lake Tri Event and Temporary Road Closures

    CARLYLE LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Carlyle Lake, in partnership with MSE Racing, will host the Carlyle Lake Tri on Sunday, 19 September 2021. The triathlon will begin in the Dam West Day Use Area at 6:30 a.m. and will consist of three groups, Sprint, Olympic Distance, and Half Distance, competing in a timed swim, bike, and run course. The swim portion will take place on the south side of the Dam West Beach. The bike course will start at the Main Dam and will travel North on Clinton and Bond County roads. The route of the run course will take participants through the West Spillway, General Dean Recreation Area, East Spillway, across Saddle Dam II, and the Main Dam. While visiting Carlyle Lake during the triathlon, visitors are encouraged to take extra caution while driving in the areas of the triathlon course.

While participating in water related recreation activities, always wear your life jacket. Over two-thirds of people who drown never had any intention of being in the water.

It will test your navigation skills while providing scenic views from some of the hidden gems around the lake. The trail has twelve caches scattered around the lake. Ready to begin the hunt?

    CARLYLE LAKE – Join park rangers at the Carlyle Lake Visitor Center on Saturday, 21 August at 2:30 p.m. in celebration of World Honey Bee Day! The day recognizes both the honey bee and the beekeepers who tend the hives. When we plant wildflowers, orchards, and other flowering plants, we support pollinators such as honey bees. They depend on the nectar of a variety of plants for their survival. Conversely, we depend on honeybees for our survival, too! Without their pollinating abilities, many nutritious plants wouldn’t reproduce. Buzz on over to learn all about honey bees and even make your own!
  • Summer Hunting Opportunities at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE – Carlyle Lake offers the outdoor sportsman a variety of late summer hunting opportunities. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources work together to manage public lands and waters at Carlyle Lake. More than 10,000 acres of public lands are open to public hunting to which all-current Illinois game laws and regulations are in effect. All hunters are also required to sign in and out daily and record harvest at the nearest hunter sign in box. Access areas are conveniently located around the lake to provide parking and access to public lands.

    This time of year is often referred to as the “Dog Days of Summer.” When visiting the lake with your pets, please follow a few simple rules to ensure everyone has a fun and safe visit. Pets must be kept on a leash no longer than six feet and must be kept under control at all times. Owners must pick up and properly dispose of animal waste. Animal waste bag dispensers are located throughout the project.

  • Carlyle Lake Fireworks Spectacular Postponed

    CARLYLE LAKE – The Fireworks Spectacular to be held this Saturday, July 3, has been postponed until Labor Day weekend due to unforeseen circumstances. There will also be no food vendor. Although there will not be a fireworks display, the Dam Jam, Sandcastle Building Contest, and Beach Games are still scheduled to take place in the Dam West Day Use Area, so there is still plenty of fun to had at Carlyle Lake. Visitors are also reminded that fireworks, including sparklers, are not permitted on Corps of Engineers property.
