  • Boundary Maintenance Work at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Carlyle Lake will be performing boundary maintenance work from December 10, 2018 through January 18, 2019 on multiple sections of the boundary line at Carlyle Lake. The boundary line maintenance work will consist of uniformed Park Rangers and volunteers walking the boundary lines, replacing signposts, identifying encroachments on government property, inspecting mowing permits, and clearing brush along the boundary line. The maintenance work is performed annually during the winter months when vegetation is at a minimum. Maintenance is necessary in order to maintain a visible boundary line and to protect the public lands at Carlyle Lake. The area of emphasis for the 2018-19 boundary maintenance will be the southern portion of the Carlyle Lake Project.
  • 2018 Water Control Operations/Dam Safety Public Workshop

    CARLYLE LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will hold a Water Control/Dam Safety public workshop on Monday, 3 December 2018 at 6:00 p.m. at the Mariner’s Village Resort Conference Center in Carlyle, Illinois.
  • Firewood Cutting Opportunity at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Carlyle Lake will offer the opportunity for individuals to obtain a Special Use Permit to cut downed trees for firewood at Boulder and Coles Creek Recreation Areas and Campgrounds. Permits will be available at the Carlyle Lake Project Office from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. beginning October 31, 2018. A total of 20 permits will be issued on a first come first serve basis at no charge. Trees will be located throughout the campgrounds and recreation areas, vehicle access will be limited to paved surfaces only. Cutting will be permitted Tuesday through Sunday beginning November 6, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Cutting will not be permitted during the 2018 Illinois Firearm Deer Season dates of November 16th – 18th and November 29th – December 2nd.
  • Halloween Happenings at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE – Plans are underway for Halloween activities at Dam West Campground on Saturday, October 27. Kid-friendly events will start at 5:30 p.m. and be followed by campground trick or treating. Campers are encouraged to decorate their site for a chance to win free camping. Campsite must be family-friendly. Park Rangers will be judging sites at 8:00 p.m. and participants will be awarded with five days of free camping for first place, three days of free camping for second place, and two days of free camping for third place.
  • James Hawn Waterfowl Blind Drawings to be Held

    CARLYLE LAKE - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announces a regulation change for waterfowl hunters wishing to hunt the James Hawn Wetland Area during the 2018 Youth Waterfowl Season (November 3 and 4) and opening weekend (November 10 and 11) of the 2018 South Central Zone Waterfowl Season. A lottery drawing will be held for six designated waterfowl blinds located in the area during both of these weekends.

    CARLYLE LAKE - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Carlyle Lake offers waterfowl hunting opportunities for sportsmen with disabilities. Two accessible waterfowl blinds will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis for the 2018-2019 Illinois South Central Zone Waterfowl Season. The first blind is located at the Saddle Dam III Wetland Complex area near the Hughes Road East entrance to Saddle Dam III. The second blind is located south of the Steins Field Parking Lot on Huey Road.
