  • Carlyle Lake Increasing Downstream Releases

    CARLYLE LAKE - As of 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 5, 2017 the pool elevation at Carlyle Lake was 451.91 feet, referenced to the National Geodetic Vertical Datum (NGVD), with a release of approximately 5,660 cubic feet per second (cfs). The inflow for Wednesday, April 4, 2018 was approximately 17,660 day second feet (dsf). With current precipitation on the ground, Carlyle Lake is forecasted to crest at 453.2 NGVD on Saturday, April 7, 2018. In order to free up flood control storage in the lake and to continue to provide benefits to other project purposes, in accordance with the water control plan, downstream releases will increase to approximately 10,000 cfs on Sunday, April 8, 2018. Carlyle Lake Dam is operating as designed, helping to reduce stages on the Lower Kaskaskia and Mississippi Rivers.

    CARLYLE LAKE - As of 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 the pool elevation at Carlyle Lake was 451.32 feet, referenced to the National Geodetic Vertical Datum (NGVD). The current release rate is approximately 5,700 cubic feet per second (cfs). The inflow for Tuesday, April 3, 2018 was approximately 14,420 day second feet (dsf). With current precipitation on the ground, Carlyle Lake is forecasted to crest at 454.0 feet NGVD on Monday, April 9, 2018. Carlyle Lake Dam is operating as designed, helping reduce flood stages on the Lower Kaskaskia and Mississippi Rivers.

    CARLYLE LAKE - As of 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 the pool elevation at Carlyle Lake was 450.76 feet, referenced to the National Geodetic Vertical Datum (NGVD). The current release rate is approximately 5,560 cubic feet per second (cfs). The inflow for Monday, April 2, 2018 was approximately 10,910 day second feet (dsf). With current precipitation on the ground, Carlyle Lake is forecasted to crest at 452.0 feet NGVD on Saturday, April 7, 2018. Carlyle Lake Dam is operating as designed, helping reduce flood stages on the Lower Kaskaskia and Mississippi Rivers.

  • Firewood Cutting Opportunity at Coles Creek

    CARLYLE LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Carlyle Lake will extend the opportunity for individuals to obtain a Special Use Permit to cut up downed trees for firewood at Coles Creek Campground. Permits are available at the Carlyle Lake Project Office from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

The current release rate is approximately 5,560 cubic feet per second (cfs). The inflow for Sunday, April 1, 2018 was approximately 14,260 day second feet (dsf). With current precipitation on the ground, Carlyle Lake is forecasted to crest at less than 451.0 feet NGVD on Tuesday, April 3, 2018. Carlyle Lake Dam is operating as designed, helping reduce flood stages on the Lower Kaskaskia and Mississippi Rivers.

  • Firewood Cutting Opportunity at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Carlyle Lake will extend the opportunity for individuals to obtain a Special Use Permit to cut up downed trees for firewood at Boulder Campground. Permits will be available at the Carlyle Lake Project Office from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. beginning March 8, 2018. A total of 15 permits will be issued on a first come first serve basis and there is no charge. All permit holders will be limited to four cords of firewood which may not be used for commercial use or resale. Previous permit holders from Dam West Campground must reapply. Trees will be located throughout the campground and vehicle access will be limited to paved surfaces only. Cutting will be permitted Tuesday through Saturday beginning March 12, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

  • Blood Drive Donors to Receive Free Camping

    CARLYLE LAKE – The American Red Cross in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be hosting a blood drive on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at the Carlyle Lake Visitors Center from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. The American Red Cross works diligently every day to keep an adequate supply of blood available. The need for blood is ongoing—24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In the United States a blood transfusion is needed every two seconds. The American Red Cross encourages eligible donors to give the gift of life to help meet the demand.

  • Eagle Watch Event at the Case-Halstead Library

    CARLYLE LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in partnership with the Case-Halstead Library, Carlyle, IL will be hosting an Eagle Watch on Saturday, February 3, 2018, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the library. At 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., the World Bird Sanctuary will present “All About Eagles” and will bring a bald eagle to demonstrate the majestic flight and nature of this beautiful bird. Everyone attending the event will have the opportunity to make an eagle craft and observe replicas of a bald eagle skull, talons and feathers to get a better understanding of the bird. Participants can also pick up a map at the library during the event and drive to various viewing locations at the lake. Park Rangers and volunteers will be on top the main dam and at the General Dean Recreation Area with spotting scopes to assist and answer questions. Everyone is encouraged to bring binoculars and dress accordingly for the weather.

Permits will be available at the Carlyle Lake Project Office from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. beginning February 5, 2018. A total of 10 permits will be issued on a first come first serve basis and there is no charge. All permit holders will be limited to two cords of firewood which may not be used for commercial use or resale. Trees will be located throughout the campground and vehicle access will be limited to paved surfaces only. Cutting dates will be from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Friday’s and Saturday’s beginning February 9th.
