  • Owls of Illinois Presentation at the Case-Halstead Library

    CARLYLE LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in partnership with the Case-Halstead Library, Carlyle, IL will be hosting “Owls of Illinois” on Saturday, January 6, 2018 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Case Halsted Library. Beginning at 9:30 Park Rangers will be on hand reading books about owls and helping participants make a pine cone owl craft to take home. At 11:00 a.m. Beverly Shofstal of Free Again Wildlife Rehabilitation will be presenting “Owls of Illinois”. Beverly will be bringing many different species of owls, sharing stories about their rehabilitation, unique characteristics, and their importance to Illinois ecosystems.

  • Carlyle Lake Christmas Tree Recycling Project

    CARLYLE LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Carlyle Lake will be collecting used Christmas trees for the Annual Christmas Tree Recycling Project. The Corps of Engineers, along with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, uses these trees to provide an effective and economical means of providing fish habitat at Carlyle Lake.

  • Boundary Maintenance Work at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Carlyle Lake will be performing boundary maintenance work from December 11, 2017 through January 12, 2018 on multiple sections of the boundary line at Carlyle Lake. The boundary line maintenance work will consist of uniformed Park Rangers and volunteers walking the boundary lines, replacing signposts, identifying encroachments on government property, inspecting mowing permits, and clearing brush along the boundary line. The maintenance work is performed annually during the winter months when vegetation is at a minimum. Maintenance is necessary in order to maintain a visible boundary line and to protect the public lands at Carlyle Lake. The areas of emphasis for the 2017-18 boundary maintenance will be from the Tamalco Access Area to Patoka Access Area.

  • 2017 Water Control Operations/Dam Safety Public Workshop

    CARLYLE LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has announced plans for a public workshop to be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. at the Mariner’s Village Resort Conference Center in Carlyle, Illinois.

  • Carlyle Lake Time Capsule Contents to be Displayed at Case- Halstead Library

    CARLYLE LAKE – In Celebration of Carlyle Lake’s 50th Anniversary, a time capsule that was buried in the Dam West Day Use in 1992 celebrating the lake’s 25th Anniversary has been reopened. Items in the time capsule will be on display to the public at the Case-Halsted Library, Carlyle, IL from Saturday, October 28th through Friday, December 8th, 2017.

  • Haunted Trail at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE – The 2017 Haunted Trail at Carlyle Lake will be Friday, October 20th and Saturday October 21st from 6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The trail will begin at the Carlyle McDonalds parking lot with a hayride down to the Little Prairie Nature trail where ghost and goblins await. Admission to the trail is $6 per person; all proceeds will go to support the 2018 Fireworks Spectacular. The Haunted Trail is supported by groups who volunteer their time to set up a spook spots along the Little Prairie Nature Trail and haunt the visitors as they pass through. Prizes for the most ghoulish spot will be awarded with a $300 first place prize, $200 for second place, and $100 for third place. The Haunted Trail is sponsored by the Carlyle Lake Fireworks Committee and the Carlyle Optimist Club, in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Carlyle Lake.

  • Waterfowl Hunting Opportunities for Sportsmen with Disabilities

    CARLYLE LAKE - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers would like to announce waterfowl hunting opportunities for sportsmen with disabilities at Carlyle Lake. Two accessible waterfowl blinds will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis for the 2017-2018 Illinois South Central Zone Waterfowl Season. The first blind is located at the Saddle Dam III Wetland Complex area near the Hughes Road East entrance to Saddle Dam III. The second blind is located south of the Steins Field Parking Lot on Huey Road.

  • Road Maintenance and Repairs at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Carlyle Lake will continue routine road maintenance and resurfacing work at various locations. These closures are necessary to provide public safety while work crews are on-site, all work is scheduled to be completed by October 31. During this timeframe expect intermittent closures as areas are prepared and maintenance is completed.
