  • Haunted Trail at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE – The 2017 Haunted Trail at Carlyle Lake will be Friday, October 20th and Saturday October 21st from 6:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The trail will begin at the Carlyle McDonalds parking lot with a hayride down to the Little Prairie Nature trail where ghost and goblins await. Admission to the trail is $6 per person; all proceeds will go to support the 2018 Fireworks Spectacular. The Haunted Trail is supported by groups who volunteer their time to set up a spook spots along the Little Prairie Nature Trail and haunt the visitors as they pass through. Prizes for the most ghoulish spot will be awarded with a $300 first place prize, $200 for second place, and $100 for third place. The Haunted Trail is sponsored by the Carlyle Lake Fireworks Committee and the Carlyle Optimist Club, in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Carlyle Lake.

  • Waterfowl Hunting Opportunities for Sportsmen with Disabilities

    CARLYLE LAKE - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers would like to announce waterfowl hunting opportunities for sportsmen with disabilities at Carlyle Lake. Two accessible waterfowl blinds will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis for the 2017-2018 Illinois South Central Zone Waterfowl Season. The first blind is located at the Saddle Dam III Wetland Complex area near the Hughes Road East entrance to Saddle Dam III. The second blind is located south of the Steins Field Parking Lot on Huey Road.

  • Road Maintenance and Repairs at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Carlyle Lake will continue routine road maintenance and resurfacing work at various locations. These closures are necessary to provide public safety while work crews are on-site, all work is scheduled to be completed by October 31. During this timeframe expect intermittent closures as areas are prepared and maintenance is completed.

  • Crappie Masters Tournament Trail at Dam East Boat Ramp

    CARLYLE LAKE – The Crappie Masters Tournament Trail in coordination with the FishHouse Restaurant will be hosting a crappie tournament on Saturday, October 14 and Sunday October 15 at the Dam East Boat Ramp. To accommodate the event and provide public safety and support, the Dam East Boat Ramp and High Water Ramp will be temporarily closed for public boat launching from Friday, October 13, through Sunday, October 15, 2017. During this timeframe, visitors should use the boat ramps located at the Dam West and Coles Creek Recreation Areas. In addition, the east portion of the Saddle Dam II Roadway and the south portion of the Dam East Recreation Area road (formerly South Shore) will be closed from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. to provide public safety during a 5K race. During this timeframe all traffic must access the area from the west through the McNair entrance.

  • Monarchs and Milkweed

    CARLYLE LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will host Bring Back the Monarchs on Saturday, September 30, 2017 to commemorate National Public Lands Day. The event will take place at the Carlyle Lake Visitor Center at 12:00 p.m. Over the past several years, the monarch butterfly population is the lowest it has been since 1993 and needs your help to recover. Participants at the event will help the recovery by assisting in milkweed seed collection, so they can be planted in areas around Carlyle Lake to help with the monarch’s survival. Milkweed provides monarchs with food, cover and host plants to lay their eggs. Other activities include: monarch crafts, games, photo opportunities, and a monarch program presented by the Butterfly House at 1:30 p.m. Volunteers who assist with seed collection will be given a packet of milkweed seeds to take home to plant.

  • Temporary Closure of the Dam East Boat Ramp

    CARLYLE LAKE – The Dam East Boat Ramp and High Water Ramp will be temporarily closed from Thursday, September 14, through Sunday, September 17, 2017. This closure is necessary to provide public safety and support the 2017 Outdoorsman Show at the Fish House Restaurant. During this timeframe, visitors should use the boat ramps located at the Dam West Recreation or the Coles Creek Recreation Area.

    CARLYLE LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Carlyle Lake is preparing for a fun and safe weekend. Whether you enjoy fishing, camping, boating, bike riding or other outdoor activities, Carlyle Lake offers an abundance of recreation opportunities. While participating in water related recreation activities, always wear your life jacket. Over two-thirds of people who drown never had any intention of being in the water.
