  • St. Louis District Army Corps monitoring low water levels on Mississippi

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District, has been monitoring low water levels along the Mississippi River this week. Currently, there are no restrictions in the navigation channel north of Cairo in the district’s area of operations and the authorized depth of nine feet is being maintained with assistance from dredging. 
  • New Guardrail Systems on Mark Twain Lake Boat Ramps

    September 27, 2022, Mark Twain Lake – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Mark Twain Lake is announcing the temporary closure of four boat ramps to improve visitor safety. The South Fork, Indian Creek West, Stoutsville, and John F. Spalding Boat Ramps will be receiving new guardrail systems. The closures are necessary to facilitate removal of the old guardrail and installation of the new guardrail. The temporary closures are as follows:
  • Corps Extends Camping Season for Some Sites at Mark Twain Lake

    September 25, 2022, Mark Twain Lake – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) at Mark Twain Lake has announced an extension of the camping season for some sites due to increased public demand. To accommodate the increased need for campsites, the Ray Behrens Campground sites 48-116 in Little Bluestem and sites 117-157 in Cedar Ridge will all be available for reservation through October 24, 2022.
  • Tickets Required for Indian Creek Halloween Walk 2022

    September 19, 2022, Mark Twain Lake – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Mark Twain Lake is announcing that the Indian Creek Halloween Walk admittance will be by advance tickets only. Tickets are $5.00 per vehicle. The Indian Creek Halloween Walk for 2022, is scheduled for Friday, October 21, 2022 (6 p.m. to 9 p.m.) and Saturday, October 22, 2022 (4 p.m. to 9 p.m.).
  • Fall Closures and Events at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE – Fall is one of the best seasons to spend time around the campfire and there is still time to enjoy the campgrounds at Carlyle Lake. The Coles Creek Campground will be closing September 26. Boulder Campground closes October 11. Dam West Campground and the north and south loops of McNair Campgrounds will close October 31. The Dam East-McNair Spillway Loop Campground and Eldon Hazlet State Park Campground will continue to operate year-round. Reservations for USACE campsites can be made by calling the National Recreation Reservation Service at 1-877-444-6777 or online at www.recreation.gov. Sites are also available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Eldon Hazlet State Park reservations can be made online at camp.exploremoreil.com.
  • Carlyle Lake Tri Event and Temporary Road Closures

    CARLYLE LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Carlyle Lake, in partnership with MSE Racing, will host the Carlyle Lake Tri on Sunday, 18 September 2022. The triathlon will begin in the Dam West Day Use Area at 6:30 a.m. and will consist of two groups, Sprint and Olympic Distance, competing in a timed swim, bike, and run course. The swim portion will take place on the south side of the Dam West Beach. The bike course will start at the Main Dam and will travel North on Clinton and Bond County roads. The route of the run course will take participants through the West Spillway, General Dean Recreation Area, East Spillway, across Saddle Dam II, and the Main Dam. While visiting Carlyle Lake during the triathlon, visitors are encouraged to take extra caution while driving in the areas of the triathlon course.
  • Army Corps of Engineers waives fees and invites volunteers to participate in National Public Lands Day, Sept. 24

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced today that it will waive day use fees normally charged at boat launch ramps and swimming beaches at its recreation areas nationwide in recognition of National Public Lands Day (NPLD) on Saturday, Sept. 24.
  • FUSRAP team to host virtual event on radioactive-waste cleanup

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District, Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP) and Environmental Branch encourages members of the public to attend its Virtual FUSRAP Open House Tuesday, Sept. 20, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
