  • Dam West Boat Ramp Closed Temporarily for (IHSA) Bass Fishing Finals

    Carlyle Lake - The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) Bass Fishing Finals are being held at Carlyle Lake on Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4, 2013 at the Dam West Boat Ramp in the Dam West Day Use Area. In order to accommodate the tournament activities, the Dam West Boat Ramp will be closed to the general public from Monday, April 29 at 10:00 p.m. through Sunday, May 5 at 12:00 p.m. Visitors should use the Apache Boat Ramp located in Eldon Hazlet State Park or the Dam East Boat Ramp and Keyesport Boat Ramp which will be available to the general public during this period.

  • Carlyle Lake Update: April 22, 2013

    As of 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 22, 2013, the pool elevation at Carlyle Lake was 450.42 feet, referenced to the National Geodetic Vertical Datum (NGVD), with a release of approximately 5,000 cubic feet of water per second (cfs). The inflow for Sunday, April 21, 2013 was approximately 24,610 day second feet (dsf).

  • St. Louis Corps of Engineers activates Emergency Operations Center

    St. Louis, Mo. – Flood preparations are taking center stage in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers St. Louis District. Col. Christopher Hall, District Commander, activated the emergency operations center at 6:30 a.m. today to increase awareness and to be better prepared to meet any emerging situations. The activation is in response to predicted precipitation and river stages.

  • Carlyle Lake Update: April 19, 2013

    CARLYLE LAKE - As of 9:00 a.m. on Friday, April 19, 2013, the pool elevation at Carlyle Lake was 445.60 feet, referenced to the National Geodetic Vertical Datum (NGVD), with a release of approximately 4,930 cubic feet of water per second (cfs). The inflow for Thursday, April 18, 2013 was approximately 14,510 day second feet (dsf). Due to the previous rainfall, Carlyle Lake will crest on Monday, April 22, 2013 at 450.0 feet NGVD.

  • Camping Opportunities at Carlyle Lake in 2013

    Carlyle Lake – The 2013 camping season will begin with the opening of Dam West and McNair Campgrounds on April 1st. Boulder Campground will open on April 15th and the Coles Creek and Lotus Group area on May 1st. The Dam East Spillway Campground and the Eldon Hazlet State Park are open year-round.

  • Pelicans Enjoy Kaskaskia River

    Kaskaskia River – The American White Pelicans have returned to the Kaskaskia River Project on their way north to their spring nesting areas. Pelecanus erythrorhynchos, is one of the largest birds in North America. These large and plump birds have an overall length between 50–70 inches, a wingspan of 9-10 feet, and average weight between 11 and 20 lbs. This primarily white bird has black-tipped wings, and a yellow bill that measures up to 15 inches in length.

  • Midwest Open Geocaching Adventure at Lake Shelbyville

    Lake Shelbyville – The 2013 Midwest Open Geocaching Adventure (MOGA) will occur at Lake Shelbyville, April 5-7, 2013. This is the World's Largest Geocaching Competition and over 1,100 people are expected to participate in it this year. Multiple events and competitions are scheduled for the three days.

  • Delayed Opening of Facilities at Lake Shelbyville

    Lake Shelbyville – All the fish cleaning stations managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville will be delayed in opening this year. The recreation areas in which the fish cleaning stations are affected follow: Spillway East, Dam West, Opossum Creek, Coon Creek, Lone Point, Whitley Creek, Wilborn Creek, Forrest “Bo” Woods and Lithia Springs.

  • St. Louis District, Corps of Engineers website gets new look

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District, migrated its public website (http://www.mvs.usace.army.mil) and all its web pages to a new look and hosting platform on March 29, 2013.

  • Survey at Veterans Curation Program demonstrates positive value for Veterans

    A survey of former participants in the US Army Corps’ Veterans Curation Program has indicated high levels of satisfaction with the program by participants. The survey was undertaken by Rebecca M. Aldrich, Ph.D., OTR/L, an Assistant Professor at the St. Louis University’s Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy, Doisy College of Health Sciences. Her survey included seventy-nine of the 103 veterans who have completed the six-month training program.
