  • Rend Lake Park Ranger Becomes First-Ever 2x Recipient of National Award

    U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Natural Resource Specialist Timothy Bischoff received the service’s Hiram H. Chittenden Award for Interpretive Excellence today. Bischoff, the service’s first ever two-time recipient of the award was recognized by the 55th Chief of Engineers Lieutenant General Scott A. Spellmon, in a virtual service-wide ceremony.

    Summer is almost here and that means millions of Americans will be planning visits to our nation’s lakes and rivers. As the steward of many of these public waters, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) reminds visitors to be aware of the importance of practicing safe, sensible and thoughtful activities in and around the water.
  • Rend Lake Dam Road Closed for Routine Maintenance

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Rend Lake is announcing that the Rend Lake Dam/Spillway Bridge will be closed to all through traffic from 7:00 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16 - 17 at 4:30 p.m. Watch for closure signs at Sugar Creek parking lot and the west entrance to the Rend lake Dam. This closure is necessary to complete routine maintenance that began in August to be performed to the roadways, guardrails and the upstream face of the Dam.
  • Beach Blast at Rend Lake, June 13

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Rend Lake is hosting the annual Rend Lake Beach Blast Saturday, June 13, at the South Sandusky Beach. Rend Lake Park Rangers will host this fun-filled event that includes games for all ages, music, and learning how to be safe while in and around the water. This popular event will kick off at noon and will run until 4:00 p.m.
  • Corps of Engineers’ Ranger Named Illinois Non-Formal Educator of the Year

    Rend Lake Natural Resource Specialist Dawn Kovarik has become the first employee in the Corps of Engineers to be selected Non-Formal Educator of the Year for 2015 by the Environmental Education Association of Illinois. The association cited Kovarik’s outstanding commitment to environmental education to the public who visit Rend Lake in Illinois, one of five lakes in the St. Louis District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
  • Temporary Area Closings during Deer Seasons at Rend Lake

    REND LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers would like to remind visitors that the some recreation areas will be closed to all vehicle and foot traffic during the first weekend of the 2014 firearm deer season, November 21-23, 2014. In addition, all sections of the Rend Lake Bike Trail, which are under the management of the Corps of Engineers, will be temporarily close to persons not actively involved in the sport of deer hunting. This closure will be in effect during all state firearm deer hunting seasons.
  • Serengeti Steve returns to Rend Lake Visitor Center

    REND LAKE - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers invites you to join us this Saturday, August 30th at the Rend Lake Visitor Center for the final Environmental Science Series Program of the 2014 season. The very popular, Serengeti Steve, will wrap up our season by presenting The Reptile Experience. Two programs will be presented the first begins at 11:00 a.m. and the second at 2:00 p.m. Join us as snakes, lizards, scorpions, and much more will be a part of your “reptile experience.”

    Benton, IL- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Rend Lake invites you to attend this week’s Environmental Science Series program to be held in the Rend Lake Visitor Center on Saturday August 2nd . “Hands-on Science Fun” will be presented by The Science Center of Southern Illinois.     Benton, Il- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Rend Lake would like to extend a special invitation to join us Saturday, July 19th, at the Rend Lake Project Office/Visitor Center, as we view the night sky. This program will be presented by a Rend Lake College science instructor Greg Hollmann. The program will begin at 8:00 p.m. and will end at 10:00 p.m.
