  • Temporary Closure Of The South Fork Recreation Area

    The U. S. Army Corps of Engineers announces that the South Fork Recreation Area will be closed to public use beginning March 22, 2021. The area will be closed for approximately two weeks to accommodate public safety.  The boat ramp will be utilized as a staging area to mobilize and assemble transport and work barge units, and to stage heavy equipment in preparation of erosion work and protection that will be occurring in proximity to the South Fork Recreation Area. When mobilization is completed, and the boat ramp is no longer needed to stage equipment, the area will re-open for public use.

  • Mark Twain Lake Campgrounds Open Soon

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Mark Twain Lake has announced campgrounds will begin opening on April 2. All sites are reservable and you will need a reservation prior to setting up on a site. You can make reservations at www.recreation.gov or by calling 877-444-677. The phased opening schedule for the 2021 camping season can be found below.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Mark Twain Lake is seeking applicants for Student Trainee Intern positions for the 2021 recreation season.   • Volunteer Recruitment at Mark Twain Lake

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Mark Twain Lake is recruiting volunteers for Gate Attendant and recreation maintenance positions.  Full-time (minimum of 20 hours per week) volunteers can receive a full-service campsite for their services.  Fill out an application at www.volunteer.gov to get started.  You may also contact the Mark Twain Lake Project Office at  573-735-4097 or email marktwaininfo@usace.army.mil for more detail.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) delivered to Congress its Fiscal Year 2021 (FY 2021) Work Plan for the Army Civil Works program on January 19, 2021.

  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers & City of De Soto to hold virtual public meeting for the De Soto, Missouri, Emergency Action and Evacuation Plan Final Results

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District, Flood Plain Management Services Program will host a virtual public meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 27, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. to present the final results of the Emergency Action and Evacuation Plan for the City of De Soto, Mo., in Jefferson County. Due to public health and safety concerns associated with the current COVID-19 pandemic, the public meeting will be held online.

  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers & City of Eureka to hold virtual public meeting for CAP Section 205 – Eureka, Missouri Flood Risk Management Study

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District, in coordination with the non-Federal sponsor, the City of Eureka is hosting a virtual public scoping meeting on January 20, 2021 to present information and gather feedback from the public on the scope of the CAP Section 205, City of Eureka, Missouri Feasibility Report with Integrated Environmental Assessment, a Flood Risk Management study. 

  • Eagle Watch Event at General Dean Recreation Area

    CARLYLE LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will host the annual Eagle Watch event at the General Dean Recreation Area between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. on Saturday January 30th, 2021. The World Bird Sanctuary will have a live Bald Eagle on display for public viewing in a heated tent. Please visit any time during these hours to help prevent large gatherings. The event will be different from years prior and be a meet and greet style event. Masks will be required when entering the tent. The General Dean Recreation Area is also one of the best spots around Carlyle Lake to view Bald Eagles in their natural habitat. Those attending the event are encouraged to bring a mask, binoculars or spotting scope, and dress accordingly for the weather as it is an outdoor event.

  • Carlyle Lake Christmas Tree Recycling Project

    CARLYLE LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Carlyle Lake will be collecting used, real Christmas trees for the annual Christmas Tree Recycling Project. The Corps of Engineers, along with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, uses these trees to provide effective and economical fish habitat at Carlyle Lake.

    Summer Employment Available at Lake Shelbyville Lake Shelbyville – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville is looking for qualified candidates to fill student vacancies for the 2021 summer recreation season. Lake Shelbyville offers a great work experience opportunity for those students who plan to make a career in biological sciences, outdoor recreation, or law enforcement. Temporary student positions are available for graduating seniors and college students at the GS-02 level. These positions are available in Interpretive Services, Visitor Assistance, Facility/Grounds Maintenance, Environmental Stewardship, and Administration with an hourly rate around $12.33 and a 40 hour per week work schedule during the summer term. Candidates may be required to work a combination of days, nights, weekends, and holiday shifts.
