  • Fall Opportunities at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE – Fall is a beautiful time for camping! Enjoy the cool fall temperatures with family and friends while roasting hot dogs and marshmallows over a crackling campfire. Carlyle Lake offers opportunities at several campgrounds that stay open for fall camping. Dam West and McNair Campgrounds will be open through 4 p.m. Saturday, November 1st, Boulder Campground will be open through 4p.m. Wednesday, October 15th, and Dam East and Hazlet State Park Campgrounds are open year round.
  • Waterfowl Hunting Opportunities for Sportsmen with Disabilities

    CARLYLE LAKE - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers would like to announce waterfowl hunting opportunities for sportsmen with disabilities at Carlyle Lake. Two accessible waterfowl blinds will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis for the 2014-2015 Illinois South Central Zone Waterfowl Season. The first blind is located at the Saddle Dam III Wetland Complex area near the Hughes Road East entrance to Saddle Dam III. The second blind is located in the recently constructed Steins Field Wetland Unit east of South Shore State Park.
  • James Hawn Waterfowl Blind Drawings To Be Held

    CARLYLE LAKE - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers would like to announce a regulation change for waterfowl hunters wishing to hunt the James Hawn Wetland Area on November 8th and 9th, 2014. A lottery drawing will be held for six designated waterfowl blinds located in the area during the opening weekend of the 2014-15 Illinois South Central Zone waterfowl season.
  • Blood Drive Donors to Receive Free Camping

    Carlyle Lake - The American Red Cross in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be hosting a blood drive on Thursday, September 18th at the Carlyle Lake Visitor Center from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The American Red Cross works diligently every day to keep an adequate supply of blood available. The need for blood is ongoing—24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In the United States a blood transfusion is needed every two seconds. The American Red Cross encourages eligible donors to give the gift of life to help meet the demand.
  • Regatta Bicycle Ride

    CARLYLE LAKE – Trailnet of St. Louis, Missouri will be hosting a Regatta Bicycle Ride featuring a metric century at Carlyle Lake on Sunday, September 14, 2014. The bicycle ride will consist of three routes; 33 miles, 40 miles, and 67 miles starting at the Dam West Day Use Picnic Shelter #2. Registration for the ride will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. A $10 member, $15 nonmember, and $3 child registration fee will be charged to ride participants. All participants will receive a map with routes, and all roads will be marked with arrows to mark the path of the route.
  • Celebration of National Public Lands Day at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Carlyle Lake is celebrating National Public Lands Day on Friday and Saturday, September 26th and 27th, 2014 in the Dam West and Dam East Recreation Areas. National Public Lands Day (NPLD) is the nation’s largest volunteer effort for public lands. Join more than 175,000 volunteers and participants around the nation to beautify the land, improve fitness, and enjoy the outdoors.
  • The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Water Safety Tips for Labor Day Holiday

    Carlyle Lake — It’s almost time to say goodbye to summer. If you’ll be spending the weekend on or around the water this Labor Day, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers urges you to remember these safety tips. Before heading out for the lake or river, be sure you have a life jacket on hand for everyone. Know your swimming ability. And if you plan to swim at a lake, please do so at a designated swim beach that is marked with a buoy line.
  • Temporary Closure of Saddle Dam II Roadway

    The Saddle Dam II roadway between McNair Recreation Area and Dam East Boat Ramp will be temporarily closed to the general public from September 2nd through September 10th for road maintenance. The McNair Campground and Recreation Area and Dam East Boat Ramp will remain open to the general public during this timeframe. All visitors are asked to use the South Shore State Park entrance to access the Dam East Boat Ramp.
  • Weekend Activities at Carlyle Lake

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Carlyle Lake is preparing for a fun and safe weekend. Whether you enjoy fishing, camping, boating, bike riding or other outdoor activities, Carlyle Lake offers an abundance of recreation opportunities. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers offers educational programs in the campgrounds and at the beaches every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday throughout the recreation season. Presentations are free and open to the public.
  • 23rd Annual Celebrate Duck Day at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE - The 23rd Annual Kaskaskia River Duck Race returns to the Carlyle Lake West Spillway on Saturday, August 30, 2014, the event will have the same format as last year. Due to maintenance work and the closure of the bridge deck on the main dam, the event has been changed to “Celebrate Duck Day Event”. Thousands of ducks will be securely placed on land in a fenced area located in the West Spillway. A designated official will be blindfolded and randomly choose the winning ducks. The owner of the winning duck will be awarded $5,000 courtesy of the Maschhoffs and nine additional prizes will be issued to the runners-up. The top four runner-up prizes include four St. Louis Cardinal Tickets donated by Imming Insurance, Sunday Brunch for four people at Krieger’s at the Holiday Inn Atrium in Mt. Vernon, a gift basket and wing tray from Dairy King in Breese and gift basket including four passes to the 2015 Balloon Fest in Centralia, IL.
