Lake Shelbyville – Archery deer hunters with plans to hunt the Moultrie County portion of Lake Shelbyville during the first fifteen days of archery season need to be aware of a last minute regulation change made by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Antlerless deer can NOT be shot from October 1 – 15 in Moultrie County, to include all Federal lands as well as the Shelbyville Fish and Wildlife Management Area. After October 15, 2018 does may be harvested in Moultrie County. This restriction was put in place to reduce the overall doe harvest in order to grow the deer herd in Moultrie County, which remains below its population goal after a 2012 outbreak of Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease decreased the herd dramatically.
