  • Kaskaskia River Clean-Up Success

    Volunteers from the Kaskaskia Mariners Association participated in the first of two scheduled Kaskaskia River Cleanup Days on Saturday, March 15. The clean-up was a big success with volunteers filling a 20 cubic yard dumpster during the event. The cleanup effort was concentrated in the New Athens portion of the river. Lunch was provided for all that participated by Smitty’s at the Marina.

  • Blood Drive Donors to Receive Free Camping

    Carlyle Lake – The American Red Cross in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be hosting a blood drive on Thursday, March 27th at the Carlyle Lake Visitor Center from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The American Red Cross works diligently every day to keep an adequate supply of blood, especially in preparation for the summer recreation months when donations are needed. In the U.S. today, a blood transfusion is needed every two seconds. The need for blood is ongoing—24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The American Red Cross encourages eligible donors to give the gift of life to help meet the demand.

    Federal and local partners took a significant step towards reducing flood risk to the Metro East here today. Representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers St. Louis District, the Metro East Sanitary District and the Southwestern Illinois Flood Prevention District Council signed a project partnership agreement to address underseepage in the East St. Louis levee system.
