    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Rend Lake reminds visitors that many locations on Rend Lake will be closed during the state firearm deer hunting seasons.

    CARLYLE LAKE - With the fall hunting season underway, hunters are reminded of their obligation to practice ethical and safe hunting while in the field. Remember, your personal ethics might not match your neighbors, but certain guidelines do pertain to all hunters.

  • TEMPORARY RECREATION AREA CLOSINGS AT LAKE SHELBYVILLE TO CONDUCT DEER HUNT FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

    Lake Shelbyville - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Wolf Creek State Park will hold the 31st Annual Lake Shelbyville Deer Hunt for People with Disabilities during the first firearm deer season on November 19-21, 2021. The hunt will be conducted in portions of recreation areas at Lake Shelbyville that are closed for the season. As a safety precaution, Lone Point and Lithia Springs Campgrounds and all of Sullivan Beach, Wilborn Creek, Coon Creek, and Opossum Creek Recreation Areas will be closed to all automobile and pedestrian traffic from 2 p.m. Thursday, November 18, 2021 to 7 p.m. Sunday, November 21, 2021.

  • Rend Lake Park Ranger Becomes First-Ever 2x Recipient of National Award

    U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Natural Resource Specialist Timothy Bischoff received the service’s Hiram H. Chittenden Award for Interpretive Excellence today. Bischoff, the service’s first ever two-time recipient of the award was recognized by the 55th Chief of Engineers Lieutenant General Scott A. Spellmon, in a virtual service-wide ceremony. 

  • Army Corps of Engineers waives day use fees at recreation areas in observance of Veterans Day

    WASHINGTON – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today that it will waive day use fees at its more than 2,850 USACE-operated recreation areas nationwide in observance of Veterans Day, November 11. The waiver covers fees for boat launch ramps and swimming beaches. The waiver does not apply to camping and camping-related services, or fees for specialized facilities (group picnic shelters) and events. Other agencies that manage recreation areas on USACE lands are encouraged, but not required, to offer the waiver in the areas that they manage.

  • Road Maintenance to Cause Temporary Closures at Mark Twain Lake

    Mark Twain Lake, November 3, 2021 – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Mark Twain Lake announces that there will be temporary closures at several recreation areas for road maintenance. Work is scheduled between November 8, 2021 to November 16, 2021. Areas may be closed for only a few days during the dates noted. Please obey all traffic laws and pay attention to construction and safety signs in the area. Be safe and watch for construction workers and their equipment. Areas that will be impacted are:

  • Lake Shelbyville Eco-Meet Results

    Lake Shelbyville – The 44th Annual Lake Shelbyville Eco-Meet, coordinated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was held at Camp Camfield Ecological Study Area on October 21st, 2021. The Eco-Meet is an environmental competition for school students that are in junior high and high school. Junior Varsity teams are comprised of four students from grades seven and eight. Varsity teams are made up of four high school students from grades nine through twelve. A total of 140 students from 35schools competed in this year’s event.

  • St. Louis District FUSRAP to host virtual event on radioactive-waste cleanup

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District, Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP) and Environmental Branch invites the public to a Virtual FUSRAP Open House Tuesday, Nov. 16, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

  • AUTOMATED FEE MACHINES AT MARK TWAIN LAKE

    Mark Twain Lake, November 2, 2021 – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is announcing the installation of new automated fee collection machines at the following recreation areas: M.W. Boudreaux Memorial Visitor Center, David C. Berti Shooting Range, Ray Behrens, Robert Allen, South Fork, Stoutsville, Indian Creek, Spalding Beach/Day Use, and Spalding Boat Ramp.

  • Dam East – McNair Campground Reservations

    CARLYLE LAKE – Beginning Monday November 1, 2021, campers visiting Carlyle Lake will be able to make reservations at Dam East – McNair Campground for the 2022 recreation season. All sites in the campground will be available to reserve from the current day and up to six months in advance. The Spillway loop will remain open year-round and will also be available for reservations. There are also QR codes located on each individual site post that can be scanned with a phone camera or an app that reads QR codes to check availability and pay for the site. Unlike Dam West, Coles Creek, and Boulder, the sites within Dam East – McNair will not have a three-day booking window. All sites will be available to reserve instantly.
