  • Fall Events at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE – Fall is a beautiful time to enjoy the outdoors and the events at Carlyle Lake will keep you busy the entire season! Boulder Campground will be open through 12:00p.m. Monday, 14 October 2019, Dam West and McNair Campgrounds will be open through 12:00p.m. Tuesday, 5 November 2019. Dam East Spillway Campground and Hazlet State Park Campgrounds are open year round.

  • Youth Deer Hunt Closures

    Temporary Recreation Area Closings at Lake Shelbyville for Youth Deer Hunt Lake Shelbyville – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is hosting a youth deer hunt at Lake Shelbyville on October 12 & 13, 2019. The hunt is conducted in portions of recreation areas previously closed for the season. As a safety precaution, several recreation areas will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic from 2:00 p.m. October 11, 2019 to 7:00 p.m. October 13, 2019. Areas impacted include Lone Point (excluding the boat ramp and Walleye Group Camp), Opossum Creek, and Wilborn Creek Recreation Areas.

  • Army Corps of Engineers waives fees on National Public Lands Day, Sept. 28

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced today that it will waive day use fees normally charged at boat launch ramps and swimming beaches at its recreation areas nationwide in recognition of National Public Lands Day on Saturday, Sept. 28.

  • Lake Shelbyville General Dacey Hayride

    Lake Shelbyville – Join us on October 10th for the 2019 General Dacey Trail Hay Ride for People with Mobility Restrictions. This event features scenic hayride tours of the General Dacey Trail for all, young and old, who are physically unable to walk the trail on their own. The trailers used for the events are made to accommodate wheelchairs and sitting participants.

  • Carlyle Lake Pool Update

    CARLYLE LAKE - As of 9:00 a.m. on Friday, 23 August 2019 the pool elevation at Carlyle Lake was 450.38 feet, referenced to the National Geodetic Vertical Datum (NGVD). The current release rate is approximately 4,000 cubic feet per second (cfs). The inflow for Thursday, 22 August 2019 was approximately 8,620 day second feet (dsf). With current precipitation on the ground, Carlyle Lake is forecasted to crest at less than 451.0 feet NGVD on Sunday, 25 August 2019.

  • Weekend Activities at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE – The Carlyle Lake Bike Trail is a fun outdoor activity the whole family can enjoy! The trail offers over sixty miles of federal, state, and county roads to ride as well as a scenic view from atop the Carlyle Lake Main Dam. Maps are available at the Carlyle Lake Visitor Center, the Carlyle Lake Project Office, or online at https://www.mvs.usace.army.mil/Missions/Recreation/Carlyle-Lake/.

  • Lake Shelbyville Youth Deer Hunt Applications

    Lake Shelbyville Youth Deer Hunt Applications Available Lake Shelbyville - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville will hold the 10th Annual Youth Firearm Deer Hunt on October 12 and 13, 2019. To apply for the hunt, youth must be less than 18 years old on October 12, 2019 and be accompanied by an adult on the hunt. Applications must be received by 4:00 p.m. on September 6, 2019. Applications can be picked up at the Lake Shelbyville Project Office Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., or online at: www.tinyurl.com/LakeShelbyville-Hunting

  • Weekend Activities at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE – With school starting, it may feel like the fun of summer is coming to an end, but the recreation season is still going strong at Carlyle Lake. All campgrounds are still open and will be through the fall. All beaches are open until mid-September. There is still plenty to do at the lake and as the temperatures begin to drop outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, kayaking, geocaching, and biking are even more enjoyable. School and work may keep your week busy, but keep Carlyle Lake in mind for your weekend activities.

  • Lake Shelbyville Dirtworx MTB Fest

    Lake Shelbyville DirtWorx Mountain Bike Fest Lake Shelbyville – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is partnering with the Lake Volunteers Association, Central Illinois Mountain Bike Association, General Dacey Trail Mountain Bike Club, and Bike and Hike Effingham to host the 2nd Annual DirtWorx MTB Fest on September 13-15, 2019.

  • Weekend Activities at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE – Carlyle Lake offers a variety of late summer hunting opportunities starting with squirrel season which opens Thursday, 1 August 2019. Shooting hours are ½ hour before sunrise to ½ hour after sunset. The daily bag limit is five and the possession limit is ten, you may possess no more than twice the daily bag limit. All public lands around the lake are open to hunting with the exception of developed recreation areas and a 100 yard buffer zone around the recreation areas and other posted areas marked “NO HUNTING.” Both shotguns and .22 rim fire rifles are permitted on Corps of Engineers public lands to hunt squirrels. Remember to always practice hunting safety and follow all State of Illinois hunting rules and regulations, as well as U.S. Army Corps of Engineers site specific regulations.
