  • Weekend Activities at Carlyle Lake

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Carlyle Lake is preparing for a fun and safe weekend. Whether you enjoy fishing, camping, boating, bike riding or other outdoor activities, Carlyle Lake offers an abundance of recreation opportunities. While participating in water related recreation activities, always wear your life jacket. Over two-thirds of people who drown never had any intention of being in the water. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers offers educational programs in the campgrounds and at the beaches every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday throughout the recreation season. Presentations are free and open to the public.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Rend Lake is hosting the annual Rend Lake Beach Blast Saturday, June 13, at the South Sandusky Beach. Rend Lake Park Rangers will host this fun-filled event that includes games for all ages, music, and learning how to be safe while in and around the water. This popular event will kick off at noon and will run until 4:00 p.m.

    The Missouri Department of Conservation encourages motorists to give turtles crossing roads a brake. Turtles are struck by cars throughout warmer months, but are at special risk this time of year because they are on the move. Young males make up most of the travelers as they search for territories of their own and for female turtles. Comfort is also a factor. Like other reptiles, turtles are cold-blooded so basking on warm asphalt feels good on cool spring days.

The Wetland Creation and Stream Bank Restoration Project at Three Springs Park in Shiloh, Illinois is a wetland and storm water management plan that blends the creation of a lake and wetlands and provides drainage from runoff storm water. The project is an excellent example of how development, storm water management, and environmental restoration can work together.
