    ST. LOUIS – The public will start to see an increase in activity on Jana Elementary School property in the next few weeks as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) St. Louis District prepares to start remediation work in the banks of Coldwater Creek under the Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP).

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) St. Louis District discussed its findings and its extensive sampling and testing efforts conducted at Jana Elementary School under the Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP) at a technical forum hosted by Saint Louis University’s College of Public Health and Social Justice yesterday. During their 1.5-hour presentation, amidst a gathering of technical experts, peers and other interested parties, USACE discussed the details of how they applied industry-standard best practices in its sampling and testing efforts to address radiological concerns at Jana Elementary School in Florissant, Missouri. These efforts ultimately determined that the school, from a radiological standpoint, is safe for adults and children.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers St. Louis District released the first of three final reports today detailing the results of its findings from extensive sampling and testing at Jana Elementary School in Florissant, Missouri. The report, which is focused on the structural sampling conducted under the Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP), confirms that the school is safe from a radiological standpoint.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is conducting the second Five-Year Review of its environmental remedial actions that have been implemented at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant (located in Middletown, Iowa). The purpose of the Five-Year Review is to determine whether the remedial actions are protective of human health and the environment. In addition, the Five-Year Review report will identify issues, if any, found during the review and make recommendations to address them.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers St. Louis District completed sampling for radioactive materials at the Jana Elementary School in Florissant, Missouri, this week as part of the Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program. Preliminary results show no presence of radioactive material above the expected range of background levels (the level of radioactivity Mother Nature already provides).

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers continued sampling both inside and outside Jana Elementary School in Florissant, Missouri, this week. Activities performed this week included structure surveys and soil samples. Structure investigations were completed today. Soil investigations began Wednesday.  “Public safety is our top priority,” said Col. Kevin Golinghorst, St. Louis District commander. “Our team has the right expertise and experience to complete this work.” 
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers begins sampling at Jana Elementary

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers St. Louis District mobilized contractor, Leidos, to immediately commence sampling both inside and outside Jana Elementary School in Florissant, Missouri, October 24.  “We are in the process of collecting samples throughout the entire property to ensure the health and safety of the students and staff at Jana Elementary School,” said Phil Moser, St. Louis District program manager for the Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP). “This will include collecting soil samples and structure surveys both inside and outside the school. Sampling activities on Monday included conducting floor scans, collecting swipe samples inside the building, and surveying playground equipment outside the school.”
