  • Weekend Activities at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE – This time of year is often referred to as the “Dogs Days of Summer.” When visiting the lake with your pets, please follow a few simple rules to ensure everyone has a fun and safe visit. Pets must be kept on a leash no longer than six feet and must be kept under control at all times. Owners must pick up and properly dispose of animal waste. Animal waste bag dispensers are located throughout the project.

  • Lake Shelbyville Dove Fields Status

    For Immediate Release: 17 July 2019 Release No.19-27 U.S. Army Corps of Engineers - Status of Dove Fields Lake Shelbyville - Due to the wet spring, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was unable to plant sunflowers in time to hold its annual dove hunt. Approximately 10 acres of sunflowers were planted at South Sand Creek Dove Field almost a month later than usual and the flowers will not be mature by the September 1st opener. The Whitley Creek dove field was still too wet to plant when Sand Creek was planted, and it was decided to forego the planting of that field. Once the flowers at South Sand Creek are mature, strips will be mowed in them and blinds will be staked as usual. However, the blinds will be on a first come, first served basis and no managed hunt will be held.

  • Carlyle Lake Summer Camp Series

    CARLYLE LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in partnership with the City of Carlyle will host the Carlyle Lake Summer Camp Series on Fridays at 10:00 a.m. in July and August beginning Friday, 19 July 2019. These fun and educational programs are free and open to the public. Programs will be held on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Dam West Day Use Shelter #2. Each presentation is packed with hands-on activities appropriate for all ages! Presentation dates and descriptions are below.

  • Weekend Activities at Carlyle Lake

    CARLYLE LAKE – Pack your picnic and head to Carlyle Lake, July is National Picnic Month! With more than 400 picnic sites available around the lake, Carlyle Lake is the perfect place to enjoy food, family, and friends outdoors. Picnic sites are available on a first come, first serve basis. The lake also has eight picnic shelters available for reservation. These shelters are great for large groups and family gatherings. For picnic shelter reservations contact the National Reservation Recreation Service at 877-444-6777 or online at recreation.gov.

  • Lake Shelbyville Tree Stand Permits now available

    Lake Shelbyville Tree Stand Permits now available for the 2019-2020 Deer Season Lake Shelbyville Tree Stand Permits now available for the 2019-2020 Deer Season Lake Shelbyville – Lake Shelbyville's Tree Stand Policy for this year will remain the same as it was last season. The policy allows hunters to leave one stand up for the season (“Seasonal Tree Stand”) and/or utilize a “Roving” stand that can be left up for a period not to exceed a break in use greater than 72 hours – the length of a 3 day weekend. Seasonal tree stands may be placed 2 weeks prior to archery season and must be removed within 2 weeks of archery season ending. Archery season runs from October 1, 2016 - January 19, 2020. Hunters wishing to purchase a seasonal tree stand permit ($30.00) must present a valid hunting license before a permit will be issued. Seasonal and Roving tree stand permits may be obtained from the Lake Shelbyville Project Office Monday – Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm and Bo Woods, Coon Creek, or Lithia Springs Fee Booths during operating hours. Roving tree stand permits, which are free of charge, may also be obtained in Sullivan, IL at Ace Hardware, Phillip’s 66 (formerly Howy’s Lakeside) Gas Station located five miles south of Sullivan, IL on Highway 32, and Chips's Marine. Hunters can also pick up Roving tree stand permits at ACE Hardware, Lithia Resort, Craig’s Sporting Goods, Kidd's Archery, or Yotes Archery Den which are located in or near Shelbyville. Hunters utilizing ladder stands are encouraged to purchase a Seasonal permit. A Roving permit is designed for the mobile hunter and requires the hunter to remove the stand from the woods if there is a break in use greater than 72 hours.

  • Carlyle Lake Pool Update, 6-28-19

    As of 12:00 p.m. on Friday, June 28, 2019 the pool elevation at Carlyle Lake was 452.55 feet, referenced to the National Geodetic Vertical Datum (NGVD). The current release rate is approximately 5,200 cubic feet per second (cfs). The inflow for Thursday, June 27, 2019 was approximately 13,080 day second feet (dsf). With current precipitation on the ground, Carlyle Lake is forecasted to crest at less than 453.0 feet NGVD on Saturday, June 29, 2019. Carlyle Lake Dam is operating as designed, helping reduce flood stages on the Lower Kaskaskia and Mississippi Rivers.

    As of 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2019 the pool elevation at Carlyle Lake was 452.10 feet, referenced to the National Geodetic Vertical Datum (NGVD). The current release rate is approximately 4,950 cubic feet per second (cfs). The inflow for Wednesday, June 26, 2019 was approximately 12,730 day second feet (dsf). With current precipitation on the ground, Carlyle Lake is forecasted to crest at 452.5 feet NGVD on Thursday, June 27, 2019 in the afternoon. Carlyle Lake Dam is operating as designed, helping reduce flood stages on the Lower Kaskaskia and Mississippi Rivers.

  • High Water Continues at Lake Shelbyville

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville is reporting continued high water conditions at the lake. The pool elevation has risen to 10.32 feet above normal summer pool (599.7 feet referenced to the National Geodetic Vertical Datum (NGVD). The level on Tuesday, June 25 was 610.02 feet NVGD.  The discharge rate was 1750 cubic feet per second (cfs) and the inflow was 4170 cfs.
