    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reopened all recreation areas that were closed due to the government shutdown on Thursday, October 17th. This includes the Kaskaskia River Boat Access and Day Use Area upstream of the lock and dam. It also includes the Confluence Campground and Trail downstream of the lock and dam. The Mississippi River Boat Access is still closed due to low water conditions.
  • Mark Twain Lake Reopens after Partial Government Shutdown

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers staff at Mark Twain Lake have started working diligently to reopen facilities for the public. Even with the House and Senate voting to reopen the government Wednesday night, there are several steps that have to be taken before its recreational areas can be used by the public. Rangers will have to thoroughly inspect campgrounds and boat ramps before visitors can return--similar to what they do after severe weather. Rangers will make sure electrical facilities are working, restrooms are in good condition, and in general make sure everything is in order for public safety.

    CARLYLE LAKE – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will reopen all recreation areas that were closed due to the government shutdown, Thursday, October 17th. This includes all boat ramps, day use areas, outlying parking lots, and the Dam West, McNair and East Spillway Campgrounds. Dam West and McNair Campgrounds will remain open through 12:00 noon, Sunday, November 3, 2013. Dam East Campground will remain open year round. All existing campground reservations will be honored. The Boulder and Coles Creek Campgrounds are closed for the season. All existing campground reservations will be honored. Eldon Hazlet State Park has remained open thought the Government shutdown and will remain open.
