This job requires the daily operation of the Lake Shelbyville Visitor Center, which is open 7 days a week from the first weekend in May to Labor Day. Volunteers are required to open and close the visitor center, answer visitor questions, provide any assistance, answer phone calls, keep an accurate record of visitation, perform clerical duties, sell bookstore and gift shop items, maintain a clean work area, restock brochures and literature, ensure restrooms are tidy, clean windows and sweep sidewalk as needed, assist with the set-up and take down of the auditorium, and update outside information board. This work schedule will be split up between three volunteer positions. Each volunteer position can be a single person or a couple who is volunteering together. A predetermined full hook-up campsite is provided in exchange for 20 hours/week of volunteer work. To reach enough weekly hours, volunteers can pick up litter in the campground at which they are staying in.
