What's New at Kaskaskia River Project?

CAMPGROUND INFORMATION

Jerry F. Costello Lock and Dam (formerly the Kaskaskia Lock and Dam) has fifteen sites available. These sites are $10/night and include amenities such as electric, picnic tables, grills, asphalt pads, trash pickup and comfort stations. A responsible person must register and pay fees within a reasonable amount of time after a camp is established or when the fee booth opens. Check out time is 4:00 p.m. The maximum number of campers per site is eight.

DAYUSE

There is also a day use area at the upper boat ramp area for those wanting to picnic. Amenities include picnic tables, grills, trash pickup and comfort stations. The Corps picnic shelter is $30 per day (8:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.) and may be reserved by contacting the Kaskaskia River Project Office. If the shelter is not reserved, it is available free of charge on a first come, first serve basis.

TRAIL

The Confluence Trail is located near the lower boat ramp. The trail is approximately half a mile long and connects the campground to the scenic confluence of the Mississippi River and the Kaskaskia River. In 2010 the trail was designated a National Recreational Trail by the Secretary of Interior. With local partners interpretive materials and a scenic overlook are in the works. Check back for updates.
