  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers gauge website outage affects St. Louis District water level information

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District, is responding to a widespread outage affecting the Mississippi River Basin Gauge Table website.  Water level information for reservoirs, lakes, rivers, locks and dams, and other monitored locations is temporarily unavailable for the St. Louis District. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers information technology personnel are working to identify the cause of the outage and restore service. The district will notify the public when the website is fully operational.

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in collaboration with state and federal partners, announces the launch of the Mississippi & Illinois River Experience Tool, a new initiative to gather public input to inform future restoration efforts under the Navigation and Ecosystem Sustainability Program (NESP).

    The Mississippi River Commission will conduct its 411th low-water inspection trip, including public hearings, from Aug. 19 – 23 at various locations along the river.

  • Corps urges caution to rec boaters on newly created islands near Grafton

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District’s Dredge Potter is currently working near Grafton, Illinois, between river miles 218 and 222, using a 300-foot-long flexible floating pipeline to removed material from the navigation channel. The flexible pipeline allows for the creation of ephemeral islands that will be used for habitat restoration and mimics natural sand bar formation. Due to rising water levels and since the dredge placement is unconfined using the energy of the river to distribute the sediment and shape the bar, these newly created ephemeral islands or sandbars may be underwater or unstable and it is recommended that boaters avoid these temporary islands.

  • Ribbon Cutting for Accessible Kayak Dock at Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary

    WEST ALTON, MO – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rivers Project Office will be hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony on September 10th, at 10:00 A.M. for an accessible kayak dock and launch at the Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary in West Alton, Missouri. This dock will connect to the existing accessible trail system at the Sanctuary and will include a transfer bench that enables kayakers to transition both in and out of their kayak from a seated position.

  • Upper Mississippi River System Hydraulic Model Update Complete

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Rock Island, St. Paul and St. Louis Districts recently completed a seven-year effort to develop an updated, standardized hydraulic model for the Upper Mississippi River System, including the Illinois Waterway. The model can be used to evaluate and communicate the effects of floodplain modifications to provide better predictability and more consistent flood risk management for the Upper Mississippi River System.

    St. Louis District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, activated its Emergency Operations Center as part of its continued readiness posture and response to rising forecasted river stages. The EOC will operate seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

  • St. Louis Corps of Engineers activates Emergency Operations Center

    Flood preparations are taking center stage in the St. Louis District. Col. Bryan K. Sizemore, St. Louis District commander, activated the Emergency Operations Center today to prepare for forecasted river stages. The EOC will operate 7 days a week from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

    This Father’s Day, bring Dad down to the Mississippi River! The third annual Great Rivers Festival will be at the National Great Rivers Museum in Alton, IL on Saturday June 18th from 12 pm – 7 pm. You can look forward to live music from Whiskey Drive, local food and drink vendors, local art vendors, and much more! There will be live bird shows from the TreeHouse Wildlife Center and an appearance by Serengeti Steve: The Reptile Experience. Other attractions include archery, catch-and-release trout fishing, birdhouse building, sand and chalk art, and lessons on how to catch and prepare Asian carp!
