• Wappapello Lake Festival of Lights Christmas Auto Tour

    Wappapello Lake – The 22nd Annual Festival of Lights Christmas Auto Tour will be held in the Redman Creek East Campground at Wappapello Lake. The event is scheduled to begin November 28, 2014, and will run through December 28, 2014. The Festival of Lights will be open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights from dusk until 9 p.m. until December 19, when it opens on a nightly basis until closing on December 28. This event is held in partnership with the Wappapello Lions Club and the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers at Wappapello Lake. With the help of local businesses, volunteers, churches, and other organizations within the community, it is speculated that this year’s event will be bigger and better than ever.
  • Get Spooked at the Haunted Museum

    Alton, Ill. – The Meeting of the Rivers Foundation is hosting the 3rd annual Haunted Museum event on Friday, October 24th at the National Great Rivers Museum in Alton, Ill. from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Take the chance to show your costume off twice by celebrating Halloween early. Activities will include trick or treating, Halloween crafts and games, and many more spectacles. Serengeti Steve: The Reptile Experience will be performing from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. Get up close and personal to the creepy-crawly creatures that make the hair on your neck stand up. Live birds from the TreeHouse Wildlife Center will be joining in the trick or treating fun. Come out for trick or treating, Halloween crafts and games, and night time lock and dam tours.
  • Temporary Recreation Area Closures at Lake Shelbyville

    Lake Shelbyville – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will hold a Youth Deer Hunt at Lake Shelbyville on October 11 & 12, 2014. The hunt will be conducted in portions of recreation areas previously closed for the season. As a safety precaution Lone Point Campground, excluding the boat ramp and Walleye Group Camp, Coon Creek Campground H Leg and portions of G Leg, and all of Wilborn Creek, Opossum Creek and Whitley Creek Recreation Areas will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic from 2:00 p.m. October 10, 2014 to 7:00 p.m. October 12, 2014.

  • Waterfowl Hunting Opportunities for Sportsmen with Disabilities

    CARLYLE LAKE - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers would like to announce waterfowl hunting opportunities for sportsmen with disabilities at Carlyle Lake. Two accessible waterfowl blinds will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis for the 2014-2015 Illinois South Central Zone Waterfowl Season. The first blind is located at the Saddle Dam III Wetland Complex area near the Hughes Road East entrance to Saddle Dam III. The second blind is located in the recently constructed Steins Field Wetland Unit east of South Shore State Park.
  • James Hawn Waterfowl Blind Drawings To Be Held

    CARLYLE LAKE - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers would like to announce a regulation change for waterfowl hunters wishing to hunt the James Hawn Wetland Area on November 8th and 9th, 2014. A lottery drawing will be held for six designated waterfowl blinds located in the area during the opening weekend of the 2014-15 Illinois South Central Zone waterfowl season.

    The US Army Corps of Engineers, Rivers Project Office, is announcing the temporary closure of the Canal Access Area in Granite City, IL. This access area will be closed from October 3, 2014 at 7 p.m. until October 4, 2014 at 2 p.m. for the Lewis and Clark Frontier Dog Walk and Picnic.   • Rivers Project Two Rivers South Access Area Closure

    The US Army Corps of Engineers, Rivers Project Office, is announcing the temporary closure of the Two Rivers South Access Area in Rockport, IL. This access area will be closed from October 1-31, 2014 for dredging. Boats wishing to launch in this section of the river should use Two Rivers North Access Area to the north or Gosline Access Area to the south.
  • Army Corps of Engineers waives fees on National Public Lands Day, Sept. 27

    The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) will waive day use fees at its more than 2,200 USACE-operated recreation areas nationwide in recognition of National Public Lands Day on Sept. 27. On this day, fees normally charged at boat launch ramps and swimming beaches will be waived.
