• St. Louis District urges boater safety

    The St. Louis District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is celebrating National Safe Boating Week, May 22- 28 by urging boaters to be smart while on the water. U.S. Coast Guard statistics show that drowning was the reported cause of death in four out of every five recreational boating fatalities in 2019, and that 86 percent of those who drowned were not wearing life jackets.
  • Corps of Engineers and Kaskaskia Regional Port District sign agreement for next phase of Kaskaskia River Harbor Study

    The Kaskaskia Regional Port District hosted a signing ceremony today signaling the initiation of the feasibility study in partnership with the St. Louis District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. St. Louis District Commander Col. Kevin Golinghorst, and the Kaskaskia Regional Port District Board Chairman George Obernagel, each signed the Feasibility Cost Sharing Agreement to enable both federal and non-federal funds to be used for the study, which is aimed at improving navigational efficiency at Terminal #2 near Baldwin, Ill.
  • Dam West Boat Ramp Closed Temporarily for IHSA State Bass Fishing Finals

    CARLYLE LAKE - The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) State Bass Fishing Finals are being held at Carlyle Lake on Friday, 21 May 2021 – Saturday, 22 May 2021 at the Dam West Boat Ramp in the Dam West Day Use Area. To accommodate tournament activities, the Dam West Boat Ramp will be closed from Tuesday, 18 May 2021 at 10:00 p.m. through Saturday, 22 May 2021 at 6:00 p.m. Visitors should use Allen Branch and Apache Boat Ramps located in Eldon Hazlet State Park or the Dam East Boat Ramp and Keyesport Boat Ramp which will be available to the general public during this period.
  • Lake Shelbyville Kids Fishing Tournament

    Lake Shelbyville Kids Fishing Tournament Lake Shelbyville - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville and Friends of Lake Shelbyville is hosting a free fishing tournament for children 12 and under on Saturday, June 5, 2021 at Opossum Pond. The pond is located near the entrance to the Opossum Creek Recreation Area. Participants must pre-register by calling (217) 774-3951 ext. 2, or email lakeshelbyville@usace.army.mil. Information needed: name of participant, age of participant on event day, name of parent/guardian, and phone number for parent/guardian.

    Mark Twain Lake, May 7, 2021 -The U.S. Army Corps or Engineers at Mark Twain Lake announces that the M.W. Memorial Visitor Center will open in phases beginning May 13. 2021. The exhibit hall and lobby will be open for your enjoyment and to provide lake Information. The community room will not be open until further notice, Hours of operation are as follows:
  • Temporary Construction Zones at Mark Twain Lake

    Mark Twain Lake, May 7, 2021 - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Mark Twain Lake announces that there will be temporary construction zones in areas with boat ramps and day use collection areas as contractors install concrete pads that will house the new Automated fee machines. Construction begins on Monday, May 10, 2021. Please obey all traffic laws and pay attention to construction and safety signs in the area. Be safe and watch for construction workers and their equipment. Areas that will be impacted are: 
  • Boat Ramp at Hunter Fisherman Lot 26 Closed for Public Use May 7 & 8, 2021

    Mark Twain Lake, May 5, 2021 - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Mark Twain Lake announces that the boat ramp at Hunter Fisherman Lot Number 26 on North Fork branch will be closed to public use on Friday, May 7 and Saturday, May 8. The boat ramp will be utilized as a staging area for a fish habitat management project that will be occurring in the area. The public lands and roadway in proximity to the boat ramp will still be available for use. Visitors are encouraged to use caution when travelling in the area.

As the steward of many of these public waters, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reminds visitors of the importance of practicing safe, sensible, and thoughtful activities in and around the water.
  • South Fork Recreation Area Open for Public Use

    Mark Twain Lake, April 30, 2021 - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Mark Twain Lake encourages visitors using the South Fork Recreation Area to use caution when traveling in the area, as heavy equipment operation and material hauling will be occurring along the primary access road within the area. Visitors should expect minor periodic delays due to required traffic controls for public safety purposes. 
  • Mark Twain Lake Fee's Suspended

    Mark Twain Lake, April 23, 2021 –  The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Mark Twain Lake is suspending the collection of fees at all boat launching ramps, the John Spalding swimming beach, and the David C. Berti shooting range until further notice. Annual boat ramp passes also will not be issued at this time.
