Carlyle Lake Pool Update

Published June 10, 2015

CARLYLE LAKE - As of 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 8, 2015, the pool elevation at Carlyle Lake was 446.42 feet, referenced to the National Geodetic Vertical Datum (NGVD), with a release rate of approximately 1,870 cubic feet of water per second (cfs).  Due to heavy rainfall upstream, the inflow was approximately 20,000 day second feet (dsf). Without additional precipitation, Carlyle Lake will crest on Friday, June 12, 2015 at approximately 450.0 feet NGVD. The target pool is 445.0 feet NGVD.

The predicted crest will have minimal impacts to facilities at Carlyle Lake. Dam West, McNair, Boulder and Coles Creek Campgrounds and boat ramps will remain open.  Areas closed due to high water conditions include: township roads around the lake, and the Keyesport and Lakeview fishing piers, some breakwaters will also be overtopped by water and caution should be used when boating near these and other submerged structures.  Boaters should become familiar with the location of these structures before launching and stay clear of all inundated recreation areas and beaches. Boaters should also watch for floating logs and other debris, and motorists should use caution when driving in low lying areas around the lake and avoid flooded roadways.

The Corps of Engineers continues to work closely with their partners, the Carlyle Lake Association, Mid-Kaskaskia River Association and the Okaw River Basin Coalition to monitor the situation.  For more information, contact the Carlyle Lake Project Office at (618) 594-2484 or email at carlylelake@usace.army.mil
