Published Sept. 17, 2014

Mark Twain Lake –The largest hands-on volunteer effort to preserve America’s lands, National Public Lands Day, will take place Saturday, September 27, 2014.   The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Mark Twain Lake is planning activities that will contribute to this national effort, and invites area community groups, family, and friends to participate and contribute to natural resource projects.

Work this year will focus on wildlife habitat management activities and recreational facility improvements at the Frank Russell Recreation Area Pond.  Installation of an aquatic landscape feature, tree planting, site grading, grass planting, shelter house maintenance, and habitat development are some of the activities scheduled for that day.  All individuals and groups will meet at the Frank Russell Recreation Area Pond at 8:00 am to coordinate work efforts.

If you or your group have an interest in contributing time, efforts or materials, contact Allen Mehrer at the Mark Twain Lake Project Office at (573) 735-4097 to register for the event.  Your contributions to maintaining and preserving public lands will be greatly appreciated by all who utilize Mark Twain Lake.
