Corps of Engineers to host Public Hearing on FUSRAP St. Louis Downtown Sites

Published Jan. 24, 2014

The St. Louis District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will conduct a public hearing regarding the St. Louis Downtown Site of the Formerly Used Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP) January 30, 2014 at 4:30pm at Clay Elementary School, 3820 North 14th Street, St. Louis, MO 63107.

The hearing will present information and accept comments on the Proposed Plan for the Inaccessible Soil Operable Unit Group 1 Properties at the St. Louis Downtown Site.

The risk due to Manhattan Engineer District/Atomic Energy Commission related contamination for the Group 1 Properties inaccessible areas does not exceed the USEPA's acceptable risk range. Consequently the Proposed Plan recommends no further action for these specific properties.

The public is encouraged to provide input to ensure the selected remedy meets the needs of the local community and is an effective solution to the problem. For more information on the proposed plan, a fact sheet and map are available online: http://1.usa.gov/1eF3DSR, or visit the St. Louis District webpage at www.mvs.usace.army.mil and click on FUSRAP under Quick Links.

The Remedial Investigation and Baseline Risk Assessment Report for the entire Inaccessible Soil Operable Unit (ISOU) at the St. Louis Downtown Site was published in September 2012, and is available on the FUSRAP web page and in the Administrative Record File for the site. This document defines the nature and extent of Manhattan Engineer District/Atomic Energy Commission contamination present in the inaccessible soils. The document also assesses the associated risk to human health and the environment under the current and anticipated future land use for the site.

The Proposed Plan and the Administrative Record File is now available for public review at the following locations:

- St. Louis Public Library, Government Information Section, 1301 Olive St., St. Louis, MO 63103

- United States Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District FUSRAP Project Office, 8945 Latty Ave., Berkeley, MO 63134
