Lake Shelbyville Youth Deer Hunt Applications Are Available

Lake Shelbyville - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville will hold the 5th Annual Youth Firearm Deer Hunt on October 12 and 13, 2013.  To apply for the hunt, youth must be less than 16 years old on October 12, 2013 and be accompanied by an adult on the hunt.  The youth must also purchase a 2013 youth either sex deer permit, which can be purchased for $10.50 at any over-the-counter licensed vendor starting in September.    

Applications must be received by 4:00 p.m. on September 24, 2013.  Applications can be picked up at the Lake Shelbyville Project Office Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or online at: http://www.mvs.usace.army.mil/Missions/Recreation/LakeShelbyville/Recreation/WildlifeViewing.aspx

On September 25, 2013, a total of ten participants will be publicly drawn from the pool of applicants at 9:00 a.m. at the Lake Shelbyville Project Office.  All applicants will be notified by phone shortly after the draw to let them know if their name was drawn to participate in the hunt.  Each of the ten participants will hunt in select locations in either Shelby or Moultrie County and will enjoy a deer camp atmosphere at the Okaw Bluff Group Camp starting with orientation night on October 11th followed by two days of hunting on the 12th and 13th, 2013.  Last season, the ten youths harvested six deer.  For further information contact Natural Resources Specialist Ashley Florey at (217) 774-3951 ext 7005.
