Alton, Ill. – The Mississippi River Water Trail Association will be hosting a poker paddle fund raiser on September 7th, 2013! Attendees will float and paddle from Pere Marquette Boat Ramp down to Grafton, IL.  They will take out and tally their hands at the Grafton Public Boat Ramp.  Winners will receive 25% of the proceeds of the registration fees. This is a fun alcohol free event for avid paddlers.  Voyageur style canoes will be onhand for paddlers that have never paddled this stretch of the river before. This is your opportunity to learn about the river with experienced guides.  Safety boaters from the St. Louis Canoe and Kayak Club plus search and rescue volunteers will be available to assist and give paddling instruction.

Canoes and Kayaks will be available for rent.  Please register online at https://alpineshop.webconnex.com/mwta-poker-paddle-2013.   Registration opens at 11:30 at Pere Marquette Boat Ramp on the Illinois River.  All hands have to be turned in by 4 p.m. at the Grafton Boat Ramp.

The Mississippi River Water Trail Association was formed in 2006 and promotes the Mississippi River Water Trail (MRWT) and activities throughout the Mississippi River system.  The Association coordinates volunteers to accomplish site improvements and maintenance of the MRWT and assists with related projects and events while working with communities, organizations, and other agencies to further develop and support safe public use of the MRWT.

This is a great opportunity to experience the River and support the Mississippi River Water Trail Association! For more information, contact the National Great Rivers Museum at 618.462.6979.
