ST. LOUIS - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District and the National Safe Boating Campaign are teaming up for National Safe Boating Week, May 18-24 by spreading the message of boating safety, encouraging boater education and helping to save lives.
Drowning remains the primary cause of death in recreational boating accidents. Many people who drown never intended to be in the water and 89% of people who die in water-related accidents were not wearing a life jacket.
During National Safe Boating Week, St. Louis District lakes and river projects will conduct educational activities, vessel safety checks and school programs across that will help visitors learn how to play it safe while playing in or around water. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is the nation’s leader in water-based outdoor recreation and water safety.
