Firewood Cutting Period Extended at Mark Twain Lake

Mark Twain Lake, January 22, 2021 – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has announced that the period firewood cutting at Mark Twain Lake for personal use will be extended to March 1, 2021. Permits currently issued will be valid through this extended period. Please be aware that firewood cutting areas may closed for short durations to accommodate maintenance activities, inclement weather, and ground conditions.

The area currently available for firewood cutting is Frank Russell Recreation Area Campground. Additional firewood cutting areas in recreation areas and hunter/fisherman access areas may become available throughout the cutting period depending on demand, weather conditions, and ground conditions. Check with the Mark Twain Lake Facebook page or future news releases to determine status.

The fee for a firewood permit is $10.00. Permits must be obtained by calling the Mark Twain Lake Project Office between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Credit card or debit card are the only forms of payment accepted. Firewood cutting for commercial use or resale is prohibited.
