Evening Talk on Mars

Mark Twain Lake, Missouri, July 18, 2018 – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Mark Twain Lake would like to invite you to attend a program at the M.W. Boudreaux Memorial Visitor Center on July 27, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. On July 27, 2018 the planet Mars will be in a special position in its orbit with respect to Earth, called opposition.  In this configuration it can easily be spotted with the naked eye, binoculars, and small telescopes.  Bring binoculars.

Dr. Robert Sadler from Culver-Stockton College will give a short talk on Mars, its orbit, the spacecraft that have visited it, and some of the historical lore associated with it. Plans from NASA, ESA, SpaceX, and others for manned visits to and colonization of Mars will also be discussed. The talk will be a general one that should be of interest to people of all ages.
