Our ongoing support: Brush clearing in preparation for summer remediation at Jana Elementary
Contractors working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) clear a large swath of densely-wooded brush (approx. 700-foot by 50-foot-wide area) located approximately two football fields away from Jana Elementary School in Florissant, Missouri, to allow surveyors to thoroughly analyze the topography of the area. The data collected will be used to inform the project team as they develop their plan to remediate low-level contamination that was identified at the bottom of a steep creek bank as part of ongoing remediation activities under the Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP). This remediation work is scheduled to begin later this summer. In addition to advancing ongoing remediation efforts along Coldwater Creek authorized under FUSRAP, USACE performed comprehensive sampling efforts inside and outside Jana Elementary School in late 2022 that concluded from a radiological standpoint, the school is safe. USACE will continue to prioritize the health and well-being of the community, guided by data-driven decisions. (USACE Photo by JP Rebello)
