Published April 23, 2014

Mark Twain Lake - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Mark Twain Lake invite you to participate in a “Ready, Set, Wear It” World Record Day event on May 17th at noon at the M.W. Boudreaux Memorial Visitor Center.  Bring your life jacket and help set a world record for the most life jackets worn and inflatable life jackets inflated. The goal is not only to promote the comfortable and versatile options when it comes to life jackets, but also to educate the public about life jackets and safe boating in general.  You do not have to pre-register, but we would like to hear in advance if you plan on attending.  Call 573-565-2112 or email marktwaininfo@usace.army.mil to let us know you plan to attend.

Bring your life jacket, sign in and join us for the photo at Noon that will make you part of a World Record Event.  Participants get a certificate of participation and a $2 off coupon for use at a Corps campground at Mark Twain Lake.   You may also purchase an event t-shirt for $8 ($10 for 2X and up) by paying in advance at the Visitor Center.

“Ready, Set Wear It” World Record Day at Mark Twain Lake  will usher in National Safe Boating Week, this year May 17-23, 2014.  This short event is part of a yearlong effort by the North American Safe Boating Campaign to promote safe and responsible boating, including voluntary wear of life jackets. “Each year, as many as 500 lives could have been saved if boaters had worn their life jackets,” said Rachel Johnson, executive director of the National Safe Boating Council. “New life jackets on the market today make it easier than ever for a boater to have fun and stay safe on the water.”
