Government Shutdown Leads to Canncellation of Annual Halloween Walk Event at Mark Twain Lake

Published Oct. 14, 2013

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Mark Twain Lake, Monroe City, MO, has announced the cancellation of the Annual Halloween Walk scheduled to be held at the Indian Creek Recreation Area on October 18 and 19, 2013.   The Indian Creek Recreation Area continues to remain closed due to the government shutdown and Corps employees are still on furlough until such time as the government shutdown is lifted.

Those campers with reservations will automatically be refunded their fees by the Active Outdoors reservation system.  Questions about refunds may be directed to the reservation system’s Customer Service Center at 1-888-448-1474 (TDD 1-877-833-6777).   Should the government shutdown be lifted, campers will still able to come and decorate for their own enjoyment and utilize their reservation.  Again, there will be no Annual Halloween Walk (Pumpkin Event) even if the shutdown is lifted.

As the government shutdown continues, campers who wish to visit Mark Twain Lake to enjoy the striking fall weather should be aware that the Mark Twain State Park, Indian Creek Marina, and Blackjack Marina remain open, as do numerous private facilities around the lake.  Though Corps maintained boat ramps remain closed, the Highway 107 and Route U boat ramps are open to allow lake access.  The Indian Creek Marina also has a boat ramp for use in launching vessels.

The Corps of Engineers looks forward to hosting the Annual Halloween Walk next year in October of 2014, once again providing a quality family friendly activity for the region.  If additional information is needed, please contact the Mark Twain Lake Project Office at 573-735-4097 or email the Corps at marktwaininfo@usace.army.mil
