Horseshoe Lake Aquatic Ecosystem Restoration, Alexander County, Illinois (Continuing Authorities Program - Section 206)

AUTHORIZATION:  Section 206 of Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) 1996 (Public Law (PL) 104-303) as amended by WRDA 1999 (PL 106-53).

Location and Description:  Horseshoe Lake is a shallow oxbow lake located in the floodplain of the Mississippi River in Alexander County, Illinois. It has experienced sedimentation problems causing the accelerated succession of the lake’s aquatic habitat to terrestrial habitat. The Ecosystem Restoration Report (ERR) will examine the feasibility of a lake draw down and restocking, causeway construction, island construction, a dewatering pump, and well installation to help restore the lake’s ecosystem.
