VALLEY PARK, MERAMEC RIVER
BASIN, MISSOURI FLOOD CONTROL PROJECT
Location and Description
The project is located in the City of
Valley Park, St. Louis County, Missouri, adjacent to the left bank of the
Meramec River between miles 20.7 and 22.1 above the confluence with the
Mississippi River.
The project consists of 3.2 miles of levee with 3 feet of freeboard
above the 100-year flood profile, six gravity drains, three closure structures,
five ponding areas, and forty one relief wells.
Authority
Section 2(h) of Public Law 97-128,
enacted in 1981, and the Water Resources Development Acts of 1986 and 1999.
Status
Completed work includes 1.6 miles of
levee, three gravity drains, three closure structures, and three ponding
areas. A contract has been awarded to
complete construction of the flood protection system. Work is expected to be completed in about November 2005, but
actual completion will depend on several factors, including availability of
funds, weather, and potential flooding.

project cost is $49,295,000.
