Colonel Lewis F. Setliff III

Colonel Lewis F. Setliff III became the 48th District Engineer of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District, on June 30, 2005.

Colonel Setliff was commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers after graduating from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in 1982.

Before taking command of the St. Louis District, Colonel Setliff was the Deputy to the Deputy Chief of Staff - Engineer for the Multinational Forces-Iraq in Baghdad. Other staff assignments include civil engineer at the U.S. Army Construction Engineer Research Laboratory in Champaign, Ill., Staff Engineer at NATO's LANDSOUTHEAST Headquarters in Izmir Turkey, and Operations Officer in the Army's Transformation Office in DA G-3 the Pentagon. Troop assignments include duty assignments as a Combat Engineer Platoon Leader, Battalion Assistant S-3 and Company Executive Officer in the 12th Engineer Battalion, 8th Infantry Division in Germany. Subsequently he served as Company Commander and Battalion S-3 in the 588th Engineer Battalion, Fort Polk, La., and as Brigade Operations Officer and Executive Officer in the 1st Engineer Brigade at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. Colonel Setliff also served as the Battalion Commander of the 14th Combat Engineer Battalion at Fort Lewis, Washington. Following Hurricane Katrina in August 2005, Colonel Setliff was selected to command Task Force Guardian, the team responsible for restoring New Orleans' flood and hurricane protection system to its pre-storm levels before the next hurricane season began.

Colonel Setliff's civilian education includes a Bachelor of Science degree from the United States Military Academy and a Master of Science degree in Engineering Science from the University of Florida. His military education includes attendance at the Engineer Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the Combined Arms and Services Staff School, the Military Acquisition Management Course, the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College, the Armed Forces Staff College and the U.S. Army War College.

The colonel's military awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, four Meritorious Service Medals, two Army Commendation Medals, four Army Achievement Medals, two National Defense Service Medals, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Armed Forces Service Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, three Overseas Service Ribbons, two Joint Meritorious Unit Awards, and the Army Superior Unit Award. Colonel Setliff also earned the wearing of the Ranger Tab, Parachutist Badge and the Army Staff Identification Badge.
