

The program is looking for wounded Iraq and Afghanistan veterans in need of temporary employment and job training to help make the transition from soldier to civilian. The participants will need to focus on specific tasks for extended periods as the tasks can be tedious and repetitive at times. Also, the work can be dirty, especially when working with the collection’s objects. Selected participants will be Contractor’s employees for full-time or part-time employment, with preference given to disabled veterans. Employment term will extend up to 6 months. The ARRA 2009 VCP program has resulted in three curation centers located in Augusta (GA), St. Louis (MO), and Washington, D.C. Each of these centers consists of buildings, facilities, and furniture that provide Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accommodations; however, any special accommodations for individuals will be considered and discussed before participation in the program. Civilian supervisors with little to no experience working with wounded veterans will be managing the laboratories.
There is great potential for motivated participants to gain valuable skills that can be carried to other workplace environments. Some of the skills include, but are not limited to:
