The Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) is the designated state agency whose responsibilities are to evaluate proposals, recommendations, and plans submitted by USACE in accordance with state or federal laws, regulations, policies, and guidance. MDNR is also providing independent field oversight of remedial activities carried out at Missouri FUSRAP sites.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is involved in the initiation, development, selection, and implementation of the remedial actions taken at FUSRAP. Under a Federal Facilities Agreement (FFA) negotiated with EPA Region 7, the St. Louis District has been designated the lead agency for the four Missouri FUSRAP Sites. Work on the Madison Site is being accomplished with the oversight of EPA Region 5. The EPA provides project oversight to ensure compliance requirements are met, schedules are achieved and remedial actions are of a high quality standard.

The St. Louis District worked with the Illinois Department of Nuclear Safety (IDNS) on the Madison Site. Similar to the EPA's role in this FUSRAP Site, the IDNS is involved in a consultative role in the initiation, development, selection, and implementation of the remedial response to be undertaken at the Madison Site. IDNS is responsible for reviewing all available data and for ensuring state regulations are integrated into the remedial action process.
