Shotgun Deer Hunting on Lake Shelbyville  

With shotgun deer season opening Friday, November 20, 2009, numerous deer hunters have called the Lake Shelbyville Project Office to inquire about deer hunting on Lake Shelbyville.  Many of the hunters were issued general County deer permits (either Moultrie or Shelby) which are NOT valid for deer hunting on Lake Shelbyville. Lake Shelbyville Main Dam Road and Wilborn Creek Recreation Area Closure

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will close the road across the main dam at Lake Shelbyville to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic on Thursday, November 19, 2009 from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m.  On Tuesday, November 21, 2009 the Wilborn Creek Recreation Area will be closed to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m.  These closures are necessary to provide safety for workers and members of the general public while construction in the Dam West Overlook and Wilborn Creek Recreation Areas is performed.  For more information contact the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Lake Shelbyville Project Office at (217) 774-3951.

Temporary Recreation Area Closings At Lake Shelbyville To Conduct Deer Hunt For People with Disabilities
                                                                                          
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Illinois Department of Natural Resources will hold the Twentieth Annual Lake Shelbyville Deer Hunt for People with Disabilities during the first firearm deer season on November 20 – 22, 2009.  The hunt will be conducted in portions of recreation areas at Lake Shelbyville that are closed for the season.  As a safety precaution, Lone Point and Lithia Springs Campgrounds and all of Bo Wood, Sullivan Beach, Wilborn Creek, Coon Creek, and Opossum Creek Recreation Areas will be closed to all automobile and pedestrian traffic from 2 p.m. Thursday, November 19, 2009 to 7 p.m. Sunday, November 22. 2009.
 These closings include boat ramps located within these areas.  Ramps remaining open to serve lake users during this period of time are at Lone Point, Lithia Springs, and Whitley Creek Recreation Areas and Wolf Creek and Eagle Creek State Parks.

Waterfowl Hunting Procedures Announced For The Okaw Wetlands

Nine waterfowl blinds will be available on a first-come, first served basis for hunting at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Okaw Wetlands during the 2009-2010 waterfowl-hunting seasons to exclude the first firearm deer season.  This includes the teal, regular duck and all Canada goose seasons.
