Family Campout

Where: National Great Rivers Museum
When: 5 p.m. on Friday to 1 p.m. on Saturday
The National Great Rivers Museum first annual family overnight
campout will offer the chance for families to participate in
questing, astronomy, fishing, birding and kayaking just a few steps
away from the Mississippi River.

www.mtrf.org.
One chaperone will be required for each group. The bird watching
and kayaking activities will be held at the Riverlands Migratory
Bird Sanctuary in West Alton, MO. Campers are required to setup all
their camping gear. Dinner, Snacks, and breakfast will be provided.
Campers are required to bring all necessary equipment and personable
belongings including bug spray, flashlights, and clothing, etc.
Camping will be permitted on the museum grounds east of the picnic
pavilion and restrooms. Lifejackets will be provided for kayaking.
Only tent camping will be allowed. No Campers.
$5 per person or $25 per family/household. This price includes all
family campout activities, food, and basic kayak skills clinic.
The 18 mile race from Grafton to West Alton is an additional $50/$55
per person. Register for the Great River Rendezvous Race or social
paddle at www.mtrf.org.

participants that would like to participate in the Social Paddle and
do not own a kayak or canoe can rent them from vendors in the area
who sell paddling equipment and provide rental boats.

All
proceeds from this event will support the
Treehouse Wildlife Center. Treehouse Wildlife Center is in the process of acquiring a new
building and moving all their animals. Treehouse Wildlife
Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to the care of
orphaned and injured wildlife with an additional commitment to
educating the public about issues relating to wildlife.
They have rescued many birds of prey, pelicans and various
wildlife species that have come into harms way on the
Mississippi River.
This event promotes
the Mississippi River Water
trails. Water trails are recreational waterways on a lake, river or ocean between
specific points, containing access points, day use, and/or primitive
camping sites for the boating public. Serving as ribbons of
discovery, water trails create educational opportunities, promote a
healthy economy and high quality of life while preserving natural and
cultural heritage.
